I liked the 2014 movie, but I do agree that this movie has to do more this time around. Hopefully without Gareth, we'll see more of Kong. I feel that it will be different this time around because as far as we know, there aren't any antagonists to steal the show this time around.

Kong looks good from that little glimpse we see there and is definitely bigger than the PJ version however I don't think he's anywhere near the size of Godzilla to be challenging him in a fight. They will need to have some sort of plot point that brings Kong on the same level as Godzilla.

They will fight for 5 minutes in a rainy, nighty scene then they will become best bro because #family only to fight some new monsters escaped from a new breach, setting up Pacific Rim 2.

Kong looks super large in that poster..... it'll all work out.

 

In this universe it seems Godzilla loses energy using his radioactive breath. Can't wait to see the eventual battle. First, Kong gets his movie.
