If it opens at $15-17m it will be somewhat disappointing but understandable. But lower? Fuck that. What the hell else do you need to do to sell people on this being a good time?

It's just opening in a bad spot. As much as I commend WB for placing this in the summer when it's been done for close to a year, it's destined to get lost in a sea of flashier fare.

I kind of think it will open just under Money Monster with about $13.5M OW. Legs should be decent though. Maybe it gets to $45M or $55M DOM?

I mean why not. Don't know if it would only do Man from Uncle numbers, that would be extremely disappointing.

Younger R-rated crowd will see Neighbors 2, even its numbers are down from Neighbors 1. Obviously, kids/families will see Angry Birds/Civil Ware/Jungle Book/Zootopia. Actions fans will see Civil War/The Nice Guys. There are plenty of good options out there for viewers. I agree that placement of the release is awkward. BUT, marketing has been stellar. If it marketing really worked, it could to $17.5M+ OW.

Well Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a limited release, and Downey and Kilmer in 2005 had nowhere near the draw of Crowe (even if he's left his most bankable days behind) and Gosling in 2016.

Gosling isn't really a proven draw tbh. Only three movies of his (The Notebook, Crazy Stupid Love, The Big Short) have made $50M+ total. Although he has been spending most of his career gravitating towards roles that wouldn't make him a draw (and I doubt a quirky 70s comedy will do the trick) so...

The budget is reported to be $50M.

Is Gosling a draw to open a niche genre flick? Aside from big properties like Noah, Robin Hood, Les Mis, what has Crowe opened over $14M+ DOM in the last decade?

I'm hoping to be proven wrong. I'd love to see this breakout.
