It's probably more because they feel they don't want/need to overplay their hand since the franchises are firmly established. Or it could be that they didn't have enough finished footage for a trailer - this is why Return of the King didn't get a trailer until three months before.

To be frank, I fully thought TASM2 would crash from last one domestic. Now only a select few thought Maleficent would hit 200M much less the 235M+ it's looking at right now. Power of the dame is taking over the entire planet.

Honestly, with only HTTYD2 for direct competition (Faults partially effected it) all summer, I was slightly expecting 200m (180-230 million being most likely)If Maleficent was #1 film of summer 2014... still thinking Apes and GotG could give its box office a run for its money
