Wknd Estimates: Nolan = 50M | BH6 = 56M+(pg 72) (who cares, our forum lives!)

Crazy expectations on here in the build up to Interstellar coming out.

If it finishes around $50 million with its near 3 hour running time and no 3D then that's a very good opening weekend. No question.

This is the sort of movie we can only judge a few weeks from now. The IMDb score is huge, the cinemascore decent. Even those that are mixed about it are surely going to tell friends they've still got to see it. I see legs.

Plus, sure it's a different audience - but having a fellow opener pull in over $50 million is bound to have played a factor in it potentially opening a little higher.

Terrific start for Big Hero 6. The mouse is well and truly back on top now. The trust in the Disney Animation brand has returned.

Hopefully we can quit the "Nolan is God", "Nolan is Jesus", "Nolan is the best thing since cinnamon bread and our forever overlord ruler." Almost feels like karma. The man is a great filmmaker and incredibly talent, but hes just a director. Obviously the GA sees him as a mere mortal, but Nolanites beg to differ.

Inception opened in the summer and lets not forget that Interstellar is also longer than it

IMO it will clear 200 mil even with this kind of opening

I'm willing to bet it will have trouble getting past a 3X.

So the only box office gods seem to be Rth, Marvel and Cameron.  ;)

So you're saying it'll have the best legs of any movie this year (by far)? What makes you think it can do this?

Let's be Cops had a 4.8X.

Just saying.  :)

I thought we already covered that Cameron is part of this discussion.  Cameron is Cameron.

Cameron hadn't been able to build off his own name before that film either. Titanic was a big hit via tremendous legs.

Whatever reasons there may have been to go soft on Interstellar, there were also plausible ones to go big on it, at least until one saw the actual film.

The problem is IS will start losing theaters. Sure, it'll hang on to IMAX, but as we've seen, that's a limited benefit.

27% from IMAX though should soften the drops

Gravity ($55m) $11.2m from IMAX opening w/e ~ 20%

Skyfall ($90m) $12.75m from IMAX. ~14%
