CoolioD1
Da Vinci made WW what GotG did, without years of inflation, 3D, IMAX or expanding markets. I know. Doesn't that just suck?

baumer
That doesn't really disprove my case. Budgets may be bigger, but the movies are also making more money (and selling more tickets). Selling more tickets? Maybe, but the population is much bigger now than it was in the 80's. Saying movies in the 80's didn't make money is not true and it distorts a lot. You are simply taking one piece of a puzzle that has about 20.
James
I am more excited for the box office prospects of the movies that are not the 'BIG THREE' of 2015. TA: AOU, SW: TFA and THG: M II will all be huge and could be boring to follow. lol Me too. I want JA to surprise a bit, I really wanna see how Maze Runner 2 does OS and I'm curious if In The Heart of the Sea will become an adult hit. Before Inferno and Conjuring 2 were moved, they were my most anticipated movies when it comes to BO tracking. Oh yeah, 50 Shades is my most anticipated when we talk BO tracking. Can't wait for that. lab276
any year where night at the museum is the second biggest movie is a year I don't wanna talk about. And what were the other hits that year that weren't pirates 2? Da Vinci Code? Cars? Jiminy cricket.. And yet so many more tickets than years with all these blockbuster sequel tentpole stuff.
kayumanggi
Given #Mockingjay's opening & road ahead, there's no guarantee it will beat Guardians as #1 domestic hit of 2014. — Gitesh Pandya (@giteshpandya) November 23, 2014
baumer
DaVinci Code was a phenom. The book was one of the most popular books of its time. Doesn't surprise me that it did so well.
James
I know. Doesn't that just suck? Yeah, we should have more generic crap like GotG and less actually exciting, interesting movies like DVC.
Ando918
The good news? The largest opening weekend at the U.S. box office this year is not Transformers 4. The bad news? The 2nd largest opening weekend at the U.S. box office this year is in fact Transformers 4.
Lordmandeep
Yeah, we should have more generic crap like GotG and less actually exciting, interesting movies like DVC. Oh please you can hate on GOTG but DVC was a terrible film! Critics and audiences agree with that. lab276
What? This seems like a really inaccurate way to gauge something. No it isn't, pretty common actually. I just think it puts things as equal as you can make it for comparison purposes.
RichWS
Very interesting how it opened exactly in line with Deathly Hallows 1.
Ethan Hunt
Angels and Demons was better than the Da Vinci Code. I really like them both though.
Hatebox
Yeah, we should have more generic crap like GotG and less actually exciting, interesting movies like DVC. I'm not one to defend the 'interestingness' of Marvel, but DVC? Really?
lab276
But they also didn't have home theaters and Netflix, so... I think population size is the bigger factor.
MrPink
Da Vinci Code made it really hard for me to call Tom Hanks my favorite actor. Dat hair

Ethan Hunt
My biggest issue with Da Vinci Code is that I saw the twist coming. Angels and Demons on the other hand... Damn that twist is incredible.
Lordmandeep
Yeah, the 760M WW and 540M OS say otherwise. Then TF4 is a beloved film then.
