Remember the rollercoster the forums and the title of the thread went through when DoS released last year - Apocalypse! => Apocalypse Cancelled! => Apocalypse back again!

It was fun.

We might be in for that again this weekend.

To be frank, the Hobbit movies look amazing but the plotting & story are not quite there. Compare Frodo's dramatic soul-crushing journey  in the original Trilogy to Bilbo's bumbling happy-go-luckiness. The audience is not that easily impressed anymore.

I actually like Bilbo a lot more as a character than Frodo.  He has vastly more depth and personality.  Frodo is basically a stock, personality-less heroic figure.  Sam is a stock, totally selfless and self-sacrificing sidekick.  Bilbo is an actual person.

I agree that the Hobbit trilogy is a little disappointing overall, but I think the acting is actually pretty good.  McKellan is brilliant as always as Gandalf, and Freeman is terrific as well.  The failing, imo, rests with the film making choices.

With some nice rounded day-to-day shifts.

11.2 M Previews

12.8 M Wednesday (lol)

9.6 M Thursday (-25.0%)

12.2 M Friday (+27.5%)

15.0 M Saturday (+22.5%)

11.3 M Sunday (-25.0%)

72.1M 5-Day

60.9M without previews

Ehh, Friday jump will probably be stronger, it'll still get into the expected range.

So far we're looking at:

11.2M Previews

13.3M Wednesday

10.0M Thursday (-24.8%)

Let's say 40% Friday increase, high teens Sunday drop

14.0M Friday (+40.0%)

16.8M Saturady (+20.0%)

13.9M Sunday (-17.5%)

79.2M 5-day

68.0M w/o previews

44.7M 3-day

It might break 210M with that.

I will say this. I saw the last 2 Hobbit movies opening night so did my best friend and roommate... but we are all seeing this one tonight.

I expect the jump to be bigger, all 3 LOTR movies opened on a Wednesday. This is the first Hobbit movie to open mid week. I think awareness of a mid week release wasn't as known/expected.
