Christmas Numbers: Unbroken 15.59, ITW 15.1, BOFTA 13.1, NATM 7.35 (official estimates) | full BOM list on p22

BOFA will hardly increase anywhere near ROTK's 37% on Friday. Hopefully it's about $15m on Friday, which would be very good.

Ehh... BOFA has defied the previous twos' holds its entire run so far. $16-18 million for Friday seems likely. $48-52 million 3-day would put $330 million+ DOM in play IMO.

$52 million ($179 million)

$30.5 million ($261 million)

$17 million ($287 million)

$10.5 million/$13 million ($305 million)

$6.5 million ($314 million)

$4 million ($320 million)

$2 million/$2.5 million ($323 million)

$1 million ($324 million)

Of course, it all depends on Jan 2-4.

Movies don't make $15+ million on Christmas Day by default. Universal didn't let up with the advertising and the book has been on the bestseller list since it came out in 2010. Wouldn't be surprised at all if it plays like The Blind Side, but TBS never positioned itself as a Best Picture frontrunner so it got the "it's nice enough for what it is" reviews, while critics were harsher with Unbroken. Which, going by RT score, makes one movie seem much "worse" than the other, but the general audience probably won't see it that way.

Unbroken

$15.6 million

$19.7 million ($35.3 million)

$19.4 million ($54.7 million)

$16.1 million ($70.8 million)

$55.2 million 3-day

$70.8 million 4-day

Could surpass Gravity if it holds up. I'm not sure if a $50 million+ 3 day is ridiculous or not. With how many sellouts it and ITW received today, I can only imagine buzz over the weekend will make it that much worse. Hobbit 3 and NATM3 also seemed poised to benefit from these sellouts.

Either way, this weekend is looking insane. (Just going by 2003. 2008 might provide considerably smaller numbers)

  1. Unbroken: $55 million/$71 million
  2. The Hobbit 3: $49 million/$62 million
  3. Into the Woods: $47 million/$62 million
  4. Night at the Museum 3: $24 million/$31 million
  5. Annie: $15 million/$19.5 million
  6. The Gambler: $11 million/$16 million
  7. The Imitation Game: $10.5 million/$13.5 million
  8. Exodus - Gods and Kings: $9 million/$12 million
  9. Mockingjay Part 1: $8.5 million/$11 million
  10. Top Five: $6 million/$7.5 million
  11. Wild: $5.5 million/$7 million
  12. Big Eyes: $5.5 million/$7 million
  13. Big Hero 6: $5 million/$6 million
  14. The Interview: $4.5 million/$5.5 million
  15. Interstellar: $4 million/$5 million

My predictions are indeed bullish

Christmas Day numbers are effing huge this year. Great way to end this lackluster year and move into 2015 on a high note.

Speaking of 2015, imagine how next Christmas Day will be with Star Wars leading the pack... And landing on a Friday.

Star Wars Episode VII

Dec 18 - $54 million (including $18 milllion in previews)

Dec 19 - $40.5 million

Dec 20 - $31 million ($125.5 million OW)

Dec 21 - $20.5 million ($146 million)

Dec 22 - $22 million ($168 million)

Dec 23 - $21 million ($189 million)

Dec 24 - $13 million ($202 million)

Dec 25 - $34 million ($236 million)

Dec 26 - $38.5 million ($274.5 million)

Dec 27 - $35.5 million ($108 million 2nd weekend) - $310 million

Dec 28 - $29 million ($339 million)

Dec 29 - $28 million ($367 million)

Dec 30 - $26.5 million ($393.5 million)

Dec 31 - $22 million ($415.5 million)

Jan 1 - $34 million ($449 million)

Jan 2 - $32 million ($481 million)

Jan 3 - $19 million ($85 million 3rd weekend) - $500 million

$500 million just by itself from Dec 18 to Jan 3... not implausible either. Especially if it gets a $100 million+ OW.

Speaking of 2015, imagine how next Christmas Day will be with Star Wars leading the pack... And landing on a Friday.

as I posted last night:

Good numbers for both of those for sure, especially considering the disappointing reviews for Unbroken and disappointing theater count for ITW, but break out your crystal balls, and guess what type of numbers we'll be looking at in exactly 365 days.

Maybe something like:

SW7 - 35

MI5 - 25

Alvin 4 - 15

Yeah, I know I might be too optimistic for all 3 of those, but why not?

It's going to be fun!

Except I just realized that the boards will be dead because we'll all be in line at the theaters actually watching movies!
