Lol what....they hired a vfx guy for this type of movie. Lmao. Fox still got it in them to make dumb ass decisions. Hugh should be utilising his whatever charisma and power he has in a better way. Wolverine was awesome but time to flex muscles in the right way. His Oscar bait stuff ain't working. Needs to do 30-40M action films like Liam Neeson.

I just think Jackman needs the right scripts. He's done some quality dramatic films in the past, and I'm sure The Greatest Showman looked promising on paper. It just didn't turn out so well.

Jackman does seem a little bit obsessed with making musicals. He had one success with Les Miserables, but a flop with Pan and now this looks like it's headed for the can.

Maybe he should be satisfied with doing Broadway shows to get his singing urges in.

Was Pan a musical?   I didn't think it was except for the Nirvana song for the Lost Boy slaves digging pixie dust but then I've never seen it.

Still for a film career that spans almost 2 decades I'd hardly say he's obsessed with film musicals.   He just needs better material.

He certainly doesn't need to be doing $30-40 B level action thrillers. I think Neeson has wasted his talent doing so many of them over the last decade.

Okay, so I've been lurking and I came across this thread and decided to finally create an account to put my opinion out there.  I feel a bit confused.  Everybody on this thread is saying that song, "The Greatest Show", is terrible.  People are even going as far as to say Hugh Jackman sounds terrible in it.  I saw some blogger claim Jackman rapped in it.  Ugh, no, he did not.  I am quite honestly shocked at these reactions.  I heard it a couple of days ago and instantly loved it.  I think Hugh Jackman sounded like a rock star in it, and it was fun to listen to.  I thought everyone sounded great - Zendaya, Zac, and Keala too.  I thought the song was catchy and fun.  I also enjoyed the "This Is Me" song.  I let my husband listen to the song and he also loved it and told me he wants to see the movie at the cinema.  I was with some friends when I listened to it who also loved it.  So when I see people online trashing it, I have to ask WHY?  Why do you guys think it's laughably bad?  Why don't you think it sounds good?  Is it so wrong that me and others actually think it's GOOD?  I know Hugh Jackman will be dancing in the movie, and I've seen him dance live - he's great - so I am looking forward to that, and I feel that when this song is seen in context with them actually dancing and Barnum introducing the show, it's going to be fun.

I also don't understand people's criticism with how Barnum is being portrayed.  Who cares?  It's not like any of us were around when Barnum was alive to see how he really treated people.  None of us are experts on him anyway.  I've read a biography on him before, and from that author's point of view, he wasn't the evil person everyone on here claims he is.  Different historians have different takes on what type of man he was.  Was he a flawed human? Absolutely!  Did he do some bad things? Sure!  But many of the things he did were considered acceptable for the time he was living in.  He was even against slavery when most of the U.S. at the time was still pro-slavery.  So what's the problem?  This is a family movie.  It's supposed to be fun and fantastical.  It's supposed to be anachronistic and it's not supposed to be taken as an absolute biography.  Obviously Barnum didn't tap dance.  I just feel like I'm in the minority here, but my husband, friends, and I are all excited for this movie.  I am sincerely trying to understand why this movie is getting so much criticism before it even comes out.

Well, again I'd have to disagree.  I loved everything about it.  To each his own, I guess.  I just find it hard to believe that my opinion could really be the minority overall, especially considering my husband and friends loved it too, so the only negative opinions I've seen were online.  My opinions usually end up aligning with general imdb ratings and RT ratings, so I guess we'll see.  Maybe this time, I'll stay in the minority, but maybe not.  I'm hoping this movie will actually be well received. I think I'm going to love it.  There's a chance I''ll see the actual movie and hate it, but so far I love the songs and the cast so that's a good sign.

Nothing wrong with being in the minority. We all fall there sometimes (some of us more than others  )

no one said that. people treating others hating on movies they like as some sort of personal attack is one of the lamest things about film culture.

When people mock something to the point where they call it laughable, it does genuinely make people who like it feel a bit odd, don't you think?  If you haven't experienced that before when others mock something you really enjoy, you aren't human (at the very least, I think every person experienced it when they were little kids).  I think it's natural. Eventually, some people learn to ignore that feeling and it doesn't bother them, but people who get emotionally connected to the things they enjoy don't find it as easy to ignore. There's nothing wrong with that.

I love plenty of movies that are critically reviled and I don't feel odd about it, I just enjoy it for myself and ignore what people think about me for having enjoyed a goddamn movie.

What is a sock account?  My name is Theresa, by the way.  Nice to meet you. I used to post on imdb, but then they took that forum down and I started lurking here occassionally, but didn't feel the urge to open an account.

Good.  So you fall into the category of people I said have developed an immunity over the years to feeling disappointed when others mock stuff they feel connected to.  I, unfortunately, have never built up that immunity as I can sometimes be a pretty emotional person.  Different personality types.  Nice to meet you, by the way.  I'm Theresa.

this is a song for a musical starring Hugh Jackman that you’re getting emotional over.  think about that for a second.

Why does it matter what project it is?  I've been excited about this project since it was announced 2 years ago.  I'm a fan of Hugh Jackman's musical theatre work (Oklahoma!, The Boy From Oz, etc.) and always wanted him to be in more movie musicals.  I loved him in Les Miserables.  I also love Zac Efron, Zendaya, and Michelle Williams.  Does it have to be Shawshank Redemption for me to be emotional about it?  My post didn't just address the song.  It addressed people trashing the movie altogether before it comes out.  I simply asked why people think it's so bad.  The rest was rhetorical.  I'm not upset you guys don't like it (at least not in the way you seem to think).  I'm trying to figure out what people think is so bad about it.  Is Ethan Hunt the only nice person on this forum?  :)
