Blankments
In the Heart of the Sea has bad effects. I can't imagine it getting nominated
movieboner
I think The Martian is going to win this.

Impact
Actually, remember no film nominated for best picture has lost to a film not nominated for best picture in this category! This is the ONLY category that this has held true for as well! (Not including animated feature and foreign film that is-even director had this happen in the early years with The Divine Lady)

Goffe
I said it once, I'll say it again. There's no way MM doesn't win this, its practical effects are more innovative than anything we have seen this year. It will win the year for the same reason TLR was nominated two years ago. CoolioD1
“Ant-Man”“Avengers: Age of Ultron”“Bridge of Spies”“Chappie”“Everest”“Ex Machina”“Furious Seven”“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2”“In the Heart of the Sea”“Jupiter Ascending”“Jurassic World”“Mad Max: Fury Road”“The Martian”“Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”“The Revenant”“Spectre”“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”“Terminator Genisys”“Tomorrowland”“The Walk” Pulling for that Bridge of Spies nom. Impact
The Revenant??? That just sounds odd, so does Bridge of Spies.
CoolioD1
I'm actually predicting the revenant. Ex Machina would be an especially inspired choice but that's not happening.
Impact
Team Jupiter Ascending and Team Chappie Okay really now-the only for sure lock is Star Wars, while films like The Martian, JW and Avengers do look likely, but I wont use the overuse term lock. I was just reading an article that said The Revenant used CGI.. I think for scenery and I'm guessing at least part of that bear sequence.. unless Leo is really trying hard for that Oscar. For my 5th choice right now-I think I'll play it safe and say Ant-Man Edit: Actually I will say Mad Max will be there. 2nd edit: Actually I would even add The Walk over Avengers and Ant Man given what I've read about the visuals. (I do see Star Wars and Martian nominated and probably Mad Max)
SchumacherFTW
Still believe in Furious 7, I still can't tell what wasn't Paul.
filmlover
The Walk deserves a nomination but likely won't get it. This is one of the few categories that favors box office hits and the film was seen by absolutely no one.
Jake Gittes
Huge flops like The Lone Ranger and Poseidon were nominated here so IDK.
