Wow....read the last 20 pages and am really surprised at how many Disney employees post here.

....They must work there because they certainly claim to know exactly what Disney is thinking ("They are definitely disappointed") and how much Disney spent on AoU.    ;)

So I guess Marvel is in big trouble, eh?     Or maybe it's superhero fatigue?   Check out the struggle Marvel is having lately:

Thor2- 206m
CA2- 259m
GOTG-  333m
TA2 - 450m?

I hope they can turn it around.

Sorry meant to use multi-quote but my mobile stuffed it up...

That might be my favorite UK/Aussie phrase.   "Stuffed up".    I wish that would catch on in the states.   I should start using it.

Atlanta lost to the Wiz on a buzzer beater via Paul Pierce.  Almost identical to the buzzer beater by Derek Rose yesterday against the Cavs.  LOL

Sorry Andy.

I heard Pierce on the radio last trying to pretend he didn't hit a lucky shot....lol...

Crazy that I'm talking about the #2 second weekend performance ever as "disappointing" but I guess that says more about the bar the first Avengers' set than its sequel's performance on its own.

True.   This is really just a testament to the astounding run of TA.   Expecting any movie to match that is just begging for "disappointment".

All of this is plain damage control and stands in the border of rewriting history. It was very normal to expect this to make similar numbers to the first one, considering how TA made the Marvel properties to explode BO wise, and that's why most of predictions here did that. You coud make a very good argument about this not reaching the DOM total of the first one, but all logic says at the very least it should have improved the opening numbers, considering the large portion of the GA who have turned fans of the Marvel Studios properties since 2012.

It's one thing to completely miss your prediction for a movie because you used flawed prediction methods....but most people wouldn't keep bragging about it.    B)

Matters in Dom comparison, which is the only one being made.

Stay tuned for this one to be very selective.

AoU v TDKR  "Let's only talk about domestic!"

AoU v FF7  "Hey!  Worldwide is what really counts!"

No bias there.

If people who want to highlight the ticket sales of TDKR, please do so for all other movies that have sold way more tickets than that, so that it does not show a POS like TDKR is above ET, Jaws, Shrek 2 etc

You mean the "adjusting game" has be applied equally?    I thought we all got to stop applying those adjustments when our favorite movie comes out on top?

IM3, Thor 2, CAWS all came after TA1. It's not as if TA1 came and then TA2 with nothing in between. It's like releasing movie, then having 3 spin-offs and then the sequel. So the bo had to take some hit. In what other world does IM3 get 400m+ after IM2's performance. TA1's goodwill has been spreading around for a while. TA2 was gonna normalize stuff.

It does seem like the MCU is its own entity.    BO gurus keep using other franchises to predict it and that keeps failing to work.

When's the last time a MCU film was predicted accurately?    Thor 2 maybe?    And IM3 and TA were missed before that one.

Yes.. And so it'll take a week longer to do it this time thanks to China and it's release date.. For INFINITY WAR, I'd like to see a 1 release date for EVERYONE Worldwide instead of the way they did this time out.. 1 Simultaneous release for all..

You would think in the age of internet pirating that would be the plan.   At least try to have one weekend where everyone would have to buy a ticket to see it.

Is Subers gone? Never thought I'd miss him, but I do. That article up on BOM is unreadable.

I know, Ray Subers was much better. Then again, not as good as Brandon Gray

I wanted to start doing my own blog on box office related stuff here now that BOM is going downhill, and some people thought it was a decent article.

I think it's sad that a 14 year-old's dumb hobby could rival a 50 year-old "professional" reporting that he's PAID to do.
