Weekend Estimates (pg44): Spectre 73 | Peanuts 45 | Martian 9.3 | Goosebumps 6.9 | Spies 6.09 | Important forum announcement in first post.

Still way way too early, but after all that doom and gloom for the past month, Bond appears to be doing.......not bad at all. Solid midnight, and 30mill would be a fine Friday (though it will certainly have a harsh Sunday drop compared to Skyfall, it's Tuesday night bump and Wednesday is going to be pretty huge). Considering Skyfall had literally everything go right for it- terrific trailers, excellent reviews, perfect tied-in marketing campaign, smash hit Adele song, exhibits at museums, the whole 50 years thing, and an entire Olympics kinda themed around the character- the fact that this could come relatively close to that opening weekend is impressive. That's a big time trend upward for Bond in context.

A 200-250m total seems likely, off an 80m OW.

Interesting given the flack that the "out there" Bonds like YOLT, Moonraker and DAD get is that they are the most attended Bond films in the US outside of Skyfall and the enormous two Goldfinger, Thunderball  (and even Thunderball  had the bloated 4th Bond film thing going on).  Then again, YOLT was a huge drop from TB,  Moonraker benefited from the resurgence provided by TWSLM and DAD was a 40th anniversary

That chart shows just how consistent the Bond franchise has been over the last 20 years. Skyfall aside, there are really no huge swings, and it is not like Skyfall is a huge outlier.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Peanuts # is just going to keep climbing. It seems like it will be a big multi-demo hit.

The Peanuts estimates right now are close to Wreck-It Ralph's opening from November 2012.  Going higher would put it closer to Big Hero 6's range from last November.

I keep flip flopping between Goldeneye and Casino Royale for my favorite Bond movie with Goldfinger sometimes in consideration (but that is more because of a really good villain more than anything else). Most of the times though, Goldeneye is the easy #1

Brosnan had 1 good Bond movie in TWINE and one excellent one in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies gets more things right than wrong. It is kind of sad that his legacy is remembered as Die Another Day instead of the 3 competent to downright excellent movies he was a part of.

If SPECTRE is as divisive as opinions here suggest (haven't seen it yet), Craig should really come back for a sequel. If he doesn't, his legacy as Bond will be tied to SPECTRE, and with the passage of time, and the fact that Craig didn't return, SPECTRE's reputation will take a big hit.

did you know that Brosnan's last appearance as Bond in any media was actually the video game Everything or Nothing where he did the voice and some motion capture. A lot of people say that games storyline would have been a great movie.

True, Skyfall was a huge jump from QOS but not as big nearly as large as earlier up swings in the series (OHMSS - DAF,  TMTGG- TSWLM, LTK-GE)

That was a great game and the plot was fantastic...really felt a true Bond flick...

I think out of the post-Soviet era Bond movies, GoldenEye, Casino Royale and Skyfall are the only ones that are truly great.

Tomorrow Never Dies and Spectre are a step down from their predecessors, but are serviceable Bond flicks in their own right.

Die Another Day I enjoy mostly for its silliness, although it has some genuinely good moments like that swordfight at the gentlemen's club.

World is Not Enough is honestly a bit too boring for me. Some parts work but it's not all that impressive as a whole.

Quantom of Solace is kinda like Iron Man 2. Way too flawed and doesn't leave that much of an impression on you after you watch it.

200m next weekend for Mark Watney.  Will finish around 215-220m if its late holds are good.

It was a brilliant decision to move. October was a shit month for box office, imagine it without The Martian.
