Saw it once in the original language, will watch it again earliest 28 December, when I'll have finally enough time to drive to a cinema and also enjoy it releaxed enough.

Don't underestimate the family members involved in Christams preperation, send the children with dad / mom,... into the cinema whilst wrapping presents or do other things where the children are not wanted / needed. Plus visits...

Here nearly all neighbour countries do not speak our language, a lot of people tend to take vacations in those countries = at least some of those on vacation (in my stae today was the last day of school), will watch it for the first time after their return = usually ~ 2 weeks X-Mas school holidays here. I am pretty sure that will be the same for at least some of the US population too.

No questions: repeat viewer make a certain percentage, but do not underestimate the people without the time, energy, or nerves to stand in line....

Hmmm maybe other users here should take that as an example for their arguments?

Like take a bet, the looser pays for an account for himself/herself or for the winner for one month or two, or donates.

Might help with the costs. Since it's the traffic that causes them to be so high, those often endless discussions are a reason too for them being that high, or?

I think your calculations are wrong, see AMC reaction about 30% more ticktes would have been possible during OW via reserved seatings.

The 19h report was not only by Deadline, the source usually correct as far as I remember

I remember that article about the $100M in 24 hours. Don't remember if it was Deadline or somewhere else (I think it was DL though). It was $100M in 21 hours from 7 pm EST Thur to 1 PM PST (4 pm EST) Fri.

So I was planning on going to see The Big Short today, looking up the movie listings and its not even playing within 40 miles of me. I call massive BS because I swore I saw it was going to be playing at my local regal earlier in the week. I hate that my local theaters can pick some low budget crappy made religious movie that I never even heard of, but god forbid we actually get some indie film or possible Oscar contenders. RANT OVER.

I don't really follow the Xmas box office but it does seem this movie will take down Avatar in the US.

International will be a lot more complicated because Avatar's 3-D share was pretty much 100% in many territories (there weren't any 2-D showings in my corner of South Africa at all).

The Force Awakens doesn't have that advantage.

You say that but Avatar was an cinematic experience. For most it will be their first good 3D live action film that immersed people into it another world. Outside of that its just a decent film. I enjoyed Avatar more in theater than Force Awakens but I will probably enjoy TFA at home more than I would Avatar.

I just don't like Avatar, IMO it is a boring movie with a ham-handed political message and lousy story. And it was Green. Lots of Green on the screen. And that's coming from a BIG James Cameron fan, I love his work, well all of it save for that.  It's really the only top box office film I don't like. E.g., I didn't think JW should have exploded like it did, it didn't have any depth to it at all, but I enjoyed it for the slick roller-coaster thrill ride that it was and actually appreciated its simplicity coming after the convoluted plot of Ultron.

 But Avatar, bleh.

Of the top 40 films WW only one is a non-franchise movie (Titanic).

Building franchises is the name of the game because they bring in the most money.

Studios don't gamble 200 million per movie to make artistic statements. That's a good way to end up going bankrupt.

Mendelson at it again. Click bait of the very highest order. We already knew you weren't fussed. Doesn't mean you have to write telling everybody every single day. It's embarrassing.

Lol, he gave up on predicting SW box office (cause he sucks) and resorted to straight up bashing the movie.

Did LucasFilm sleep with his wife or something.

Are people going on about $1 billion? Do yall realize how many tickets that is? Cuz, its like 100,000,000. 30 million more than our last 3 big hitters.

The $800 dream is real, but we need to be cautious with $1b. Still way too early in the run.
