JonathanLB
Ok, I agree that $40M would still be impressive because it blows away the X-Mas record and I believe any day from any movie's 2nd weekend, but I don't think Rth is so drunk that he says 49-51 and it comes in at 40. We're golden. The dude is on the freakin' money every day, day in and day out. He even gave us a TINY range yesterday for X-Mas Eve and was spot on. Even I got caught up being greedy, but when I really wrap my mind around it, a $50M Friday (or close) even on a holiday for second weekend in a single day is incredible. Sure, we're not at an Avatar increase and yes, the movie won't perform like Avatar in holds, but didn't we all know that? Otherwise it grosses $2.5B lol and that's just dumb. That could never have happened. I think we're all going to be pretty happy still with the weekend figure and where the movie sits after the 2nd weekend is nothing short of historic.
marveldcfox
Jennifer Lawrence bigger drawn than Will Smith nowadays.....not cool. Btw my favourite gal is now Daisy Ridley. I want her to be the next Lara Croft in Tomb Raider movie.

With the latest update from Rth, 160M weekend is the target which would shatter the old record by over 50%+. Another record SW7 should hold for a while. we only have 8 to 10 members? Not sure about Tele, but not a lot directly wrote they are drunk = 1/2 drunk... times 2 for members So again: TOP HOLIDAY SINGLE DAY GROSSES Christmas Day Rank Title (click to view) Studio Christmas Gross / % of Total Theaters / Average Day/Year Lifetime Gross 1 Sherlock Holmes WB $24,608,941 11.8% 3,626 $6,787 F 2009 $209,028,679 2 Avatar Fox $23,095,046 3.1% 3,456 $6,683 F 2009 $760,507,625 3 Meet the Fockers Uni. $19,542,490 7.0% 3,518 $5,555 Sa 2004 $279,261,160 TOP SINGLE DAY NON-OPENING GROSSES BY DAY OF THE WEEK Friday Rank Title (click to view) Studio Single Day Gross Theaters Average Date / Days in Release Gross to Date* Final Gross* 1 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen P/DW $36,740,666 4,234 $8,678 6/26/09 3 $127.9 $402.1 2 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith Fox $33,529,613 3,661 $9,159 5/20/05 2 $83.5 $380.3 3 Transformers: Dark of the Moon P/DW $32,988,883 4,088 $8,070 7/01/11 3 $97.8 $352.4 I see a tendentious difference between those charts IMHO: we do not have enogh December high earners with X-Mas on a Friday to expect precentages, but I think X-Mas Day in general has other rules than a normal Friday, even if a lot of people are on vacation at said Friday Several websites / news outlets seem to report the $40m detail, but no sorces / reasons given and they are to me not known as BO outlets = I am guessing 99% are only repeating THR/DL/... and forgot to name them as source Only as general information: here the 24 December is 1/2 a public holiday, means beside food... who end a few hours later = all get paid a full day, but leave work ~ midday. 25. December is 1st X-Mas Day, also fully payed public holiday. Same counts for 26. December, called 2nd X-Mas Day. = all stores, including food are closed since latest 16:00 o'clock 24 December (mostly since 13:00/14:00) and will not open before 27 December in general (this year 28 December). All Sundays are also closed, means no store is open beside emergency specialised for medical drugs stores and travel / transfer located stores in railway stations, airports, highway gas stations... plus restaurants, theaters, museum, and cinemas are open too, but beside a few really big ones, no libraries... Even the public swimming pools... are partially closed. Nearly all of what does open and is entertainment related, does open either late and/or shuts down early during that time frame. = all cinemas located in a mall.... without an own entrance / a system to seperate them will be closed down too Traditionally people in my circle of friends visit at first X-Mas one set of grandparents and at the 2nd X-Mas Day the other one. Or go on vacation (partly to avoid those visits?), rather often into a foreign language to us country = don't expect too high numbers of certain Christian countries.

To me that depends on those mid-week grosses and holds. If it can hit $30M Monday then I believe it can hit $110M for next week's mid-week grosses, which if it hits $150M to $160M this weekend that puts it at $540-550M after the weekend and thus $650-660M by the end of Thursday. That's ahead of Jurassic World at most parts of that range. So... bottom line, going to be close. I think.

Literally the only movie you can compare it to is Avatar, and of course that means there is no comparison. Unprecedented territory and uncharted waters. Yes, at the very least it will be close, but we'll just have to see what that Monday number is. If it's crazy high, there's also a chance it won't be that close and will beat JW on Wednesday instead. I admit I think it's tough to imagine it falling harder than 25% from last Monday with almost everyone off work, given that Avatar increased. TFA won't increase, I mean there's just no way I don't think, but a 25% decrease is conservative I believe. It could do better. More like a 15% decrease is feasible, especially if Saturday and Sunday are strong. I think any way you crunch it though TFA passes $700M without too much trouble next weekend. As a die-hard Star Wars fan, I wait until next Tuesday or Wednesday, I'm buying a nice bottle of champagne and I have some Star Wars cookies, then I'm watching A New Hope -- the movie that started it all -- that day at night, after I see TFA during the day. You better believe I'm gonna be there the day it passes Avatar for that theoretical chance I was the one who bought the ticket that pushed it over Yup, huge nerd.
