When I read through the MPAA per year statistics, how big the percentage is of people only going once a year into a cinema...

I think a lot of those only go into a cinema, if the movie is worthy to watch on a big screen.

I think also that tendency is growing within the GA

So each movie added to a franchise might show even strong signs of fatigue, but in the sum it will add to the years admissions.

Plus as the cinema owners association (exact name not at hand) stated repeatedly:

block busters... draw also more audience into the cinemas in to nearer future, as the impact of trailers,... seen in a cinema seems to be stronger than seen on a small screen, people might get tempted to even visit a cinema again.

And those multi franchise release might even tempt a part of the usual once a year audience to go twice + a year into a cinema...

Hence the main reasons I have no problem at all with franchises

I am aware that there are also a lot of other movies / details playing into the yearly admissions...

You can't compare like that since JW is in thick of summer while SW7 is when school is back. Friday jump will be much stronger for the latter.

1)  Using your numbers JW made 30% of it's BO after 17 days. If TFA makes 30% of it's BO after 17 days then it's at 965.

 

2) It's winter... TFA will not have it's legs cut off by competition like JW did.

So 790M OS, weekend must have gone up a lot since Sunday total was only 770M+.

Of course TFA could have great weekends, but JW had in 4th weekend over 29 mln, so if TFA needs 70% it means that it need around 50 mln in 4th weekend, and we shouldn't forget that TFA doesn't have weekdays which are 70% better than JW, so it need even better weekend.
