Fun pro-Bonds factoid: Barry Bonds was *intentionally* walked more times during his career, than Albert Belle or Jim Rice had *total* walks in their careers.

Yea, if you took away all of Barry's hits in 2004 he still would have had a .376 on-base percentage; the amount of walks he received from 2001 to 2004 were insane.

I've actually seen him do the .5 day thing before. Can't remember which movie(s) but he definitely has, although he should do it for every film that has Thursday previews. I don't mind it, since it is #5ExtraHours. But for TFA, it likely would have still broken Potter's midnights record had it been released at 12am, and probably would have had a very similar OW total to the one it got. People could get the wrong idea that the OW grosses for these films would change that drastically had they released at midnight as opposed to 7pm.

It's pretty obvious the extra & earlier showings had a positive boost that was meaningful (esp since Friday morning was the last working/school day for many before the holidays). Not trying to take anything away from the previews/OD/OW but I can see that argument. Doesn't mean the man is "butthurt" lol seems so silly to put it that way. Guy is a pretty reliable resource most of the time.

I completely agree. He should just do it for every movie, for consistency's sake.

Guys, I appreciate the passion about baseball, and I'm sorry I brought it up to begin with, since people took my post (semi)seriously. But Bonds/Ruth/Aaron/whoever is way off topic at this point. If you want to use them to make a box-office comparison, that's fine. But anything else should go to the Sports forum.

Defense lacked.  But he was a top pitcher too.

Offense, Ted comes close. 8th all time batting right behind teds average but better slugging percentage for ruth. No one comes close to those two.

The Splinter was an awesome hitter as well, but there are some other folks in that neighborhood, too. Gehrig is so famous for getting sick that people forget he was 1B to Ruth's 1A offensively, and had 12 consecutive seasons in which he was no worse than 4th in the AL in OB + SLG (1926-1937) and Ruth was still active for the first 9 of those.

Plus, Hornsby at around the same time won the Triple Crown twice, once as a shortstop and once as a second baseman, and *led* the NL in OP + SLG 10 times in 12 years.

Edit - Yes, I'm done.

Bay moved to Miami eight and a half years ago, after falling for the city while filming Bad Boys II. For a while he rented Madonna's old house, then bought this place from Hulk Hogan for $17 million. He has a house in Los Angeles too, where he was born. But he calls Miami home. "I loved L.A. growing up, but it's become too big and soulless," he says. He's also filmed three movies in Miami, which buys him a lot of goodwill when, say, he runs his brand-new Jet Ski into a Coast Guard patrol boat.

I remember watching Bonds, but I was really young. His stats in the early 2000s are absolutely insane. I watched pretty much every Nats game this year, and to see what Bryce Harper did game in, game out at the plate was amazing. By all accounts, one of the greatest years ever at the plate. And Bonds in that 4 year stretch you mentioned had an OBP 100 points higher than Bryce this past year. Jaw dropping.

EDIT- Just saw Tele's post. That's it from me.

That's never stopped them before. And honestly (assuming their BP list is similar to the PGAs), MAD MAX, THE MARTIAN, and COMPTON are all fairly solid hits. It's not like everything on the list is snooty art fare (for better or worse).

Yeah, but snubbing the highest grossing film of all time, I don't know man, that just makes the academy look like its filled with a bunch of old geezers, if you get my point.

Of course, they've done it before, and they have always have to suffer the potential consequences, but yeah.

Or it could be because many of those old geezers were young when the first Star Wars came out so the new one doesn't look very special in comparison.
