Beating Avatar in 20 days. Just insane. What was previously the shortest time that a movie it took to break the all time dom record? (Am sure this question can be worded in a better way. Feel free to do so.)

Titanic -> ET first run 58 days

Titanic -> ET whole run 78 days

Avatar -> Titanic first run 50 days

Avatar -> Titanic whole run 59 days

as for movies before that (SW, Jaws, ET, ect) I could not find respective numbers at BOM. Sorry.

When does Force Awakens finally slow down? Not for a while. Industry projections believe Episode VII will start losing theaters closer to the MLK holiday; that that frame’s opener Ride Along 2 will finally seize No. 1 away from Force Awakens with a four-day estimated take of $50M-plus.

Damn. That WW number is so unreal. So even one of the most beloved franchise couldnt beat avatar as the WW king, so what do you guys think. How safe is avatars ww gross?

It won't come near Avatar WW and if China has the muted opening that it's pre-sales indicate then Titanic might be out of reach as well.

What is crazier is that it was not a sequel or a known brand.

As long as exchange rates suck, it's OS and WW gross are safe including from future Avatar sequels.

Does that imply that The Force Awakens may very well sell more tickets than Avatar globally but fall short purely because of the current exchange rates? Just curious...

Avatar (2009) took 47 days to beat Titanic (1997).

Titanic took 86 days to beat Star Wars (1977).

Star Wars took over a year to beat Jaws (1975).

Jaws took it from Exorcist (1973).

Exorcist took crown from Gone with the Wind (1939).

Gone with the Wind took the crown from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

haven't checked, but Avatar, .... too should have broken a lot too, I think it's especially the speed

E.g. how many days let's say $20m+ = got broken at their time, but now again for more days

Which one has a bigger impact, ER or inflation in general?

I think there is no in general answer to that, as ER included means WW = too varying in too many regions since the start of cinema.

conquers 'Avatar' in just 20 days. It took 'Avatar' more than 7 mos & 1 rerelease get to same gross
