Box office mojo's all-time adjusted chart just went haywire.

101 Dalmatians is now at 869M and Snow White 948M (918M for 2015 ticket price)

Someone really needs to make a proper list one day, because this is getting quite ridiculous and arbitrary. 3rd time now that BOM adjusts the average ticket price in like 2 months.

edit: Somehow Jurassic World is now at 687M adjusted. 35M in 6 months! Because that makes so much sense... Adjuster definitely not broken /s

The Revenant is doing a lot more than I would have thunk.  Leo is probably one of the last stars that can open a movie on his name, instead of the concept selling the movie.

The concept combined with DiCaprio is what sold the movie. FOX put together an outstanding marketing campaign. DiCaprio alone can't sell shit (see J. Edgar).

Well, apparently he can Cjohn.

I think the director sold the movie. Everyone wanted to see what he did next after Birdman, clearly. This whole idea of Leo selling the film is ridiculous. It's CLEARLY the director.

LOL, just joking, a fellow director can wish, right? I mean come on! :P

That list is nonsense. Let me get this straight. TFA's pricey 3D/IMAX tickets pushed the average ticket price for this quarter to $8.7 and now we will apply this expensive average ticket to children's cartoons?? Enjoy your Snow White and 101 Dalmatians matinee in IMAX 3D or 4DX, for $18 kids :bash:

The same applies to JW. It was in the theaters 6 months ago for Christ's sake. It didn't manage to upsell its audience the way TFA did, so it doesn't get the beefier average ticket price. :jedi:

Well, apparently he can Cjohn.

No, he can't. The big OW was a combination of concept + star + epic marketing campaign. No actor can sell a movie on his name anymore.

And I don't agree with yours.

Look, not every actor is going to bat 1000.  J Edgar didn't look appealing to anyone so no one went.  But Leo's name obviously helps sell a film.  How else do you explain almost every single one of his films doing exceptionally well?

Put another actor in his place and I don't think the movie does half as well here.

I agree. Again, it is a combination of factors ;)

Just one month ago I remember you saying Joy was sold on Jennifer Lawrence's name alone, CJohn. What made you change?

I still say that. Yes, Joy did 50M because of JLaw just like J. Edgar did 35M because DiCaprio. The draw power of both when everything around them looks unappealing is truly amazing. But if you combine either of them with an appealing concept, the box office potential will increase significantly.

Of course he helps. He is probably the biggest movie star in the world right now. But when he is the only thing a movie has going for it, he can't do miracles, and the movie will still bomb.

Part of the issue is that NATO just released the 2015 Ticket Price AVERAGE - it was higher than the # that BOM had which means that it went through 2 upticks. That one and the adjustment for price that includes the increases from the first point of december on.... Not hard to believe that we went into 2016 with that average ticket price considering what the higher grossing movies have been (geared toward adults or 3d/Imax extravaganzas.)

The adjusted list isn't hard to understand when taken into context - but most don't do that.
