Theaters wil always prefer movies to have runs like Titanic and Avatar because they get a bigger % of the gross after week two.

Trust me, theaters would have loved to see TFA open to 150m and then seriously leg it's way to 900m+

That drop was pretty close to what I had on my model. I think TFA will hit $900M around Jan 31.

Yep, my model has it hitting 900 on Jan 31st as well and 950 the last weekend of March.

Frankly moving VIII to December seems like a good idea to me. Gives them 6 more months to work on it and puts it in the same spot as VII. I think spreading them out a little more will also help their grosses.

I'm also thinking they will re-release VII in from of it that winter.

Exactly. Theaters want leggy movies. Studios want opening weekend behemoths.

Who do I root for? The studios of course. The studios/distribs are the ones who will be bringing film-goers new content to enjoy. In fact, the theaters have a vested interest in the studios' continued success, as they can only sell their premium soda and candy to the people who walk through the door. People only come through that door in high numbers if the studios are releasing movies that the GA wants to see.

Sony will now release SPIDER-MAN on July 7, 2017.

Sony will now release JUMANJI on July 28, 2017.

Jumanji was never gonna be ready in time to be released this year but a Summer release date sounds like the dumbest thing ever.

Twitter.... is exploding...

Sony's JUMANJI reboot will now roll the dice on 7/28/17 instead of the previously announced 12/25/16. Summer 2017 is gonna be a doozy.

Forget summer, STAR WARS is now locking down December to call its own...every...single...year. May the Force Be With You...Every Xmas.

Episode8 moves from MAY26 to DEC15 in 2017. That's just 10days before Avatar2 which may need to move now.

With Disney's PIRATES 5 moving to May 2017, Sony's reboot of SPIDER-MAN now sets up its web on 7/7/17, ditching 7/28/17.

Disney moves : EPISODE VIII to 12/15/17 from its previous May 2017 release date.

Sony moves Spider-Man reboot to July 7, 2017 in the US, and moves Jumanji remake back to July 28, 2017 from Christmas Day 2016.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES moves into EPISODE VIII's vacated spot, 5/26/17, and leaves 7/7/17 in its wake.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII jumps ship from 5/26/17 and will now launch on 12/15/17.
