WEEKEND ESTIMATES: ‘The Grey’ $15+M, ‘One For The Money’ $12+M, ‘Man On A Ledge’ $6+M

That's pretty good for One for the Money. Heigl's box office has been on the decline but at least that's not too severe. But I also think that since it's based on books there are probably some of those fans going to see it as well. The Grey is coming in more or less where it was tracking. No surprise. I know people were hoping for more.

Keep in mind that The Rite made 14m in its opening this weekend last year and it was #1. It's generally a weak time of year. January looks like it'll top last year's handedly, which was one of my main areas of concern. That's great. This month looked like a nonstarter.

V: Early BO - The Grey $15-17M | One For The Money $13-15M | Man On A Ledge $6-8M

While Open Road's wolf adventure pic "The Grey" is looking on track to win the weekend box office, early Friday B.O. estimates for Lionsgate's "One for the Money" are delivering something of a surprise.

Midweek tracking had put Katherine Heigl starrer "One" in the $5 million-$7 million range through Sunday. But Friday afternoon grosses -- boosted in large part by a special from coupon website Groupon -- show the pic angling to rake in between $13 million and $15 million over the weekend frame.

"The Grey" is on a pace to take in between $5 million and $6 million on Friday, putting it in line to earn between $15 million and $17 million for the weekend.

That means that Summit's "Man on a Ledge" will likely take third place among the trio of openers.

Box office observers estimate "Ledge" to earn between $2 million and $2.5 million Friday, positioning the Sam Worthington-toplined action thriller to earn $6 million to $8 million through Sunday. Summit also offered an online deal for "Ledge" through the Living Social site, but tracking as of Friday afternoon doesn't show the pic earning more than data had indicated earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Sony Screen Gems' holdover "Underworld: Awakening" is likely to be down by about 60% in its soph sesh, putting the fourth installment in the vampire vs. werewolves franchise in line to earn around $10 million.

The Grey is going to have a good opening. I will never bet against Neeson again. That guy is a box office God. Just watch Wrath of the Titans and Battleship doing 500M+ WW.Good for One for the Money. Heigl is still a draw, even if the movie is a piece of shit.Man on a Ledge deserved more. 10M at least. That movie was awesome.

And when was she a draw in a non-shit? All movies that she opened on her name alone, aka post KU, were shit. All of them.I thought $15 mio for TG was Friday and went into shock that OFTM made $12 mio.
