I was about to suggest that WB (and other studios) could create original franchises, but then I realised how absurd that notion was in this day and age.

Here's what I have to say on the "can WB compete with Disney?" matter:

 

If Lego Dimensions (published by WB) had only WB characters (so no BTTF, Jurassic World, or Ghostbusters), would it be able to compete with Disney Infinity? No.

 

(However, I do think that if Universal or Fox created their own NFC figure game they could compete with Infinity.)

Fox only has one huge franchise and it might not have a sequel this decade.

 

Other than ID2, Fox can't even come close to a billion. 

 

Universal and Disney are the heavy weights.

 

Paramount and Fox are middle weights.

 

Sony is a lightweight.

 

And Lionsgate is an amateur being forced into retirement.
