This will be June's biggest flop. I was correct about "Alice" and will be about "Dory" as well. Disney saturated the market this spring/summer with family films, good ones in Zoo and TJB, and the fatigue has set in.

FWIW, I'm not predicting an "Alice 2" or "Tomorrowland" level flop for Dory either. If that's what this thread is about then I didn't read carefully enough before posting. I think Dory will be a relative disappointment: Right around $200m DOM. By what most are predicting, that would qualify as a "flop" for it.

10-day mark: $287 DOM.

No question, I was way off about Dory. Clearly underestimated the enduring appeal of the Nemo brand. It's instructive to contrast Dory with "Greek Wedding 2". Both were sequels to huge smash hits 13-14 years ago. Sure, Universal probably made money off "Greek 2" this year because of a low budget, but it was nothing at the box office compared to the original. The original just didn't resonate across the years the way Nemo obviously has, thus setting Dory up for this explosion.

Alice: Through The Looking Glass - Could drop more than 50% from the first film.

Popstar: Never Stop Stopping

Warcraft

The Legend of Tarzan

Ben-Hur

Mechanic: Resurrection

I don't know what War Dogs, Spectral, Free State of Jones, The Infiltrator, Nine Lives, Kubo and the Two Strings, Hands of Stone are.

Of the 14 films going wide in August, I think only 5 will make over $20M total.

Well I'm doing well so far!

Who would've thought a year ago that:

TMNT2 would make less than half of the first film?

Alice 2 would make less than a fourth of its predecessor?

Warcraft would be massive overseas but an all-time bomb in the states?

IDR would open to less than the original's 3-day without adjusting for any inflation?

And the summer isn't even half over yet.

Alice 2

IMO, Alice 2 is the biggest flop. It's going to cost Disney maybe $150 million. But like with the Good Dinosaur last winter, Disney is getting a PR pass on it because it has so many hits out.

But it's not getting a financial pass, those are big $$$ Alice has cost it.

THE BOMBS:

The Nice Guys

Alice 2

Popstar

TMNT 2

Free State of Jones

Resurgence

The Neon Demon

I left out Warcraft since it's making enough money overseas to not be a flop.

Shame about TMNT 2 and Nice Guys. I enjoyed those movies
