I do wonder if ARCLIGHT has issues with the summer slate, though, since they announced in theater that they will be showing Jurrasic Park in June, and a bunch of other old block busters over the summer.   https://www.arclightcinemas.com/en/locations/los-angeles/sherman-oaks/showtimes/?ItemId={4D3EE2D0-2337-4C56-A103-B5CA6FB924D9}

Maybe it's just a thing they do that I never noticed before.

You're correct.

They also released Prince of Persia on Memorial Day weekend as well. Should probably stay away from this weekend for now on.

Should probably put better movies their instead.

Ummmm... It hasn't happens in what 7 films? Why would you expect it to change now

I just figured that this would be a break out film, cause you know, it's bigger in scale and it looks great.

For the 2nd year in a row Disney dumps a big-budget movie on Memorial Day weekend with minimal advertising.

After what happened with Tomorrowland (which had better reviews) I am not surprised at all that Alice 2 is flopping so hard.

Disney's live action division has released one major flop in most years. John Carter, The Lone Ranger, Tomorrowland and now this. The execs keep approving swollen budgets for favored directors and/or stars, seemingly without regard to the quality of the projects. When it comes time to account for the losses to shareholders, Bob Iger shifts the blame onto Disney's other film units for not making enough green to wipe out the red in his ledger.

PROJECTED EIGHT-WEEK TOTAL: $404M (2.25x)

Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising

Friday: $2.62M (+87.4%)

Saturday: $3.36M (+28.5%)

Sunday: $2.53M (-24.9%)

Monday: $1.16M (-54.3%)

SECOND WEEKEND FOUR-DAY TOTAL: $9.66M (-55.6%)

That Monday drop for Angry Birds is ridiculously huge.

Generally, $28 million for the 3-day on MD weekend means $33-35 million for the 4-day.

As everyone has already said, Pirates will drop again in 2017, but Memorial Day 2018 has the Han Solo film.

So at least this should be a decent weekend in 2018.

You guys talk a lot about how strong are the 4th of July and Memorial Day Weekends but all I see every year on these weekends are bombs.
