Inside Out 6/21/2015 $90,440,272.00 $13,414,791.00 17.42%

The two most amusing points, to me, are first how absolutely dominant The Lion King was for an original movie. Shattered the record both in real dollar and percentage terms.

Second is the fact that Gremlins and Ghostbusters broke the record on the same weekend.

Or they could make better movies that aren't CBM and animations.  There's a thought...

As if quality has anything to do with it...

Most of the movies are nothing to write home about.

I, as a fan of Illumination’s films, am very happy for them. They are a wonderful success story and as someone who is an entrepreneur in real life, I really look up to them as an incredible success story. They inspire me and I root for them because I can relate to their beginnings.

I know many here on this forum hate their films and unfortunately wants them to fail, and some others just want them to produce better quality films while others just think they will never be good but regardless of the hate or the dislike of their films on a quality level, they are a great story of brilliant marketing and unique comedy style. I honestly feel like even if Illumination had delivered a masterpiece it would have been disregarded just because of the anti-brand bias among some folks. Even though I think it’s not fair, this anti-brand bias also exists for other studios so it’s not an Illumination issue per se.

It’s important to remember that Illumination started at a Paris underground garage and they were a nobody company. A French company who no one cares about it. Years later, they are making successful films that are performing exceptionally well at the box office.

So well done for everyone at Illumination.

I love that people are still acting like Frozen and the like are groundbreaking while Illumination's projects are a generic wasteland. Get over it Disney stans! Disney has the name. Other than that, there ain't much difference.

Frozen's isn't groundbreaking but its a damn good movie. Secret Life of Pets isn't a had movie itself but not particularly memorable

Bruce Almighty....Wow.....maybe Carrey and Aniston during their peak popularity if I had to guess.

Apparently, movie critics are Disney stans.

Have had so many people (many of them older) the past few weeks leaving Tarzan claiming that "the critics have lost their minds!"

I told my dad to go see it and he went last night. Hated it (oh well) and he also texted me right after said "Steven Tyler just walked past with his bodyguard" I was like "wait lol was he seeing Tarzan?"

"no. He didn't look THAT bored."

Those 200-285 critics don't even register in my household. If they have others held hostage, that's on them.  There's very few I will read.  the others are bloggers with no real knowledge of film.

Fantastic for Illumination and Pets. Well earned too, the marketing was everywhere with kids thinking it looked funny and parents and teens thinking it looked cute. Big win on par with The Jungle Book shock earlier this year.

Fuck those stupid pets though.

Right, because people with real knowledge of film make no distinction between two movies in the same genre.

Disney is probably kicking themselves.

Sure, they made 5 billion at box office in record time but the fact that some people don't find their current line up ground breaking or experimental enough must be killing them inside. :depp:
