I guess that in spite of the better-than-average reviews, these numbers for Ghostbusters, which are neither spectacularly bad nor spectacularly good, will not be enough for a sequel to be greenlit. When studios pour hundreds of millions of dollars in producing and marketing a brand-name summer reboot, they expect more than just ok numbers.

I will learn to be ok with this; I have to. :(

Maybe they can still do one just with a lower budget? Maybe.

It's kinda astounding that even after 32 days, Frozen still wasn't on your charts, yet. Only at 239m. Still had another 160m to go.

I wouldn't fret yet.  This should get a sequel.  If it can hit 400 WW, I see no reason for Sony to give up on it.

Be honest though, you liked it better than TDKR :redcapes:

I didn't hate either film.  But if you are going strictly by grades, I think I liked TDKR a bit more.

I wonder... this must be the peak of animation prowess at the box office. Look at how much money animation has made lately. This must be the peak, right? Is it  possible for animated movies to be even bigger at the box office?

Depends. Across companies and films, this is certainly a huge period. Going back three years, we've had seven films crest 300m. That's very, very strong. And we're seeing it across several companies, not one or two.

In terms of specific films, though, we've seen bigger peaks. TLK, Shrek 2, FN, BatB, Aladdin, TS2, and possibly even MI, Shrek1, and TS1 were all comparably larger films, probably.

No, this is not the peak. If anything, Pets is showing that it's just getting started.

November 2016: Moana. A contender for a break-out if there was one.

December 2016: Sing

February 2017: Lego Batman

June 2017: Cars 3 (Hey, it can still be big)

June 2017: Despicable Me 3 ($300m dom for sure)

November 2017: Coco

December 2017: The Croods 2 (Maybe $200m dom?)

March 2018: Wreck-it Ralph 2

May 2018: How to Train Your Dragon 3

June 2018: Toy Story 4

November 2018: Gigantic

February 2019: Lego Movie 2

June 2019: The Incredibles 2

November 2019: Frozen 2 (Maybe. Haven't announced for sure)

And those are just the ones we know about!
