They really need it. Out of all studios, they have the most horrible year. Outside of Ghostbusters, Sony actually did really well with all of their movies. Paramount had expensive bomb after expensive bomb after expensive bomb. This might be the worst year in studio's history.

Ghostbusters probably didn't make money in theaters, but merchandising was reportedly doing well. It will do very well on home video in America, and it will probably make good money with TV/streaming deals worldwide. This new movie also increased interest in the old movies and products related to them. I'm sure after all things considered, GB 2016 was profitable for Sony.

Nile already said there is no profit and shit is seen as a disaster. The dude is an insider. He knows these things. Stop saying lies.

So if we get information from an insider, and we use it as a prediction in box office, would we be arrested for insider predicting?

Ghostbusters lost millions for Sony, more than they will ever publicly admit.  You also forget that most of that merchandising (which did very poorly) goes right to Murray/Akroyd/Ramis/Reitman families and not the studio.

I know people really like to champion this movie, and with good and noble reasons, but the unfortunate fact is it lost a lot of money.  This is Hollywood, even if in the long run it came even close to breaking even or making money the studio would be clawing to green light a sequel and get it into production.  It was set up for exactly that reason, but the fact that they have abandoned the entire franchise except for some potential cartoons in the future should be a pretty good sign.
