You know, PPZ you have been asking why we geek over these numbers, in my case at least I know that nobody in my personal circle understands why I follow box office actively, and it would be kinda pointless to explain why I like following it, because I know they would nod and go "oh yeah, that's nice" while thinking "what is wrong with him". I have no stakes in it so therefore it shouldn't interest me right?

I actually haven't had to explain to anyone I know why I'm suddenly into tracking box office. But my nickname in high school was "Uber-Nerd" (given to me by the other nerds) and the nickname I acquired in an MMO I play is "Captain Spreadsheet". So I think it's the sort of thing people I know expect from me.

Honestly, if I'd grown up in a family that was more into movies I think I'd have been into box office tracking years ago.

Spider-man would need a 150 m OW  for a chance at 400 m. Highly unlikely.

100 m OW and 300 m DOM is much more realistic.

$10m more than TASM2 for the OW seems a lowball

That's a bold statement with the trend it has been on. That's bigger my prediction from last year that china BO would flatten out which just happened

1 Spider-Man Sony $403,706,375 3,876 $114,844,116 3,615 5/3/02
2 Spider-Man 2 Sony $373,585,825 4,166 $88,156,227 4,152 6/30/04
3 Spider-Man 3 Sony $336,530,303 4,324 $151,116,516 4,252 5/4/07
4 The Amazing Spider-Man Sony $262,030,663 4,318 $62,004,688 4,318 7/3/12
5 The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Sony $202,853,933 4,324 $91,608,337 4,324 5/2/14

I'm aware, despite the misfires the character is still very strong -unlike Superman-. TASM2 with a cataphoric launch and reception did $700, more or less $650m given the unfavorable dollar change, that can be vastly improved. With 200+ days left the movie is well positioned

I guess most of our expectations for Rogue One were just too high. It's understandable, though, given the exceptional weekday numbers.

At the end of the day, $50M is still a huge 3rd weekend and it's fitting that that's 5th all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avatar, The Avengers and Jurassic World because it's not going to reach those final domestic numbers anyway.
