They always release a horror movie in the first week of January and it's always dreadful.

Quality wise, usually.

But since White Noise started the trend 12 years ago (!) They've always delivered decent opening weekends.

Underworld Blood Wars $14,000,000
The Forest $13,000,000
The Woman in Black 2 $15,000,000
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones $18,300,000
Texas Chainsaw 3D $21,800,000
The Devil Inside $33,700,000
Season of the Witch $10,600,000
Daybreakers $15,000,000
The Unborn $19,800,000
One Missed Call $12,500,000
Nothing
Hostel $19,600,000
White Noise $24,100,000

Not the first horror release of the year though.

I only like Insidious 2... so I don't really care, lol.

Jesus Christ, WTF was Rings? I wasn't expecting nothing from this, but it managed to be worse than horrible. I know that Hollywood lacks of new ideas, but they really needed to ruin the identity of an once respectable movie? The worst part is that they didn't even try something new, the whole concept is an It Follows spin off. The acting is horrible, and the direction is even worse, where the hell did they spend that $25m budget?! Not even TV Movies have such a cheap cinematograph, worst Horror movie of year by far.

I feel exactly the same about Rings. On the flip side I watched the bye bye man last night and that was actually really good. It needed a little bit more explanation as to who the bye bye man was but overall the film really well-made really atmospheric and quite scary and some parts.

The Bye Bye Man remains the worst film I've seen this whole year.

I think it'll be hard to beat.

Cure for Wellness came close though.

Oh nothing, NOTHING is gonna top The Bye Bye Man.

I still can't get over how dreadful the editing was in The Bye Bye Man, did they give it to a chimp? Looked awful. The acting was pretty dire to boot.

Everything sucked, the very second it started I was laughing so hard because the opening shot was overexposed. Just utter incompetence all the way around.
