AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR | 1369.5 M overseas ● 2048.4 M worldwide

Recommended Posts

You guys are being absurd in your inflation of Avatar in the Chinese market. Most of the growth in the past decade has come from local films. $200M for a hollywood film in 2009 is not $2B for a hollywood film in 2018. Just like Transformers 2's $65M total that same year isn't equivalent to $650M now. No hollywood film has come anywhere near that.

Avengers - Infinity War Continues To Dominate

Avengers - Infinity War continues to dominate the box office in India with excellent numbers on day eight of 7 crore nett. There is a 75% drop from day one but its still collecting at very high levels. The total of the film has reached 163 crore nett and by the end of the weekend it could become the highest grossing Hollywood film in India beating the 187 crore nett plus of The Jungle Book. If not Sunday then Monday it will go ahead of The Jungle Book.

The Jungle Book grossed 48 crore nett in week two and that record could still stand as it wont be easy for Avengers - Infinity War to reach that mark. The 200 crore nett mark which will be the first for a Hollywood release will be reached by the end of the second week.

~$1.35M A steeper fall than I expected but still good number. Also goes to show TJB had absolutely insane legs in India, it's 2nd week will be more than AIW but it's 1st week was almost half of it.

That's why I was lowballing with 700m from China.

No other hollywood film was even close to that in 2009

220cr would be the target now if it sustains next week as well. AIW prints are out on net saw many people discussing about this movie but i came to know they have watched it online! Piracy is back!

Chennai Express, 3 Idiots and Kick will be relegated below AIW!

First, please drop the feigned indignation. Second, where did I say they were more important ? You just can't use non-mature markets for long-time based comparisons, it's basic economic analysis. Japan has been a fairly stable market with no inflation for decades where as South-Korea has experienced massive growth in the past 15 years or so. In South-Korea's top 30 films by admissions, every single film has come out within the last 15 years. Every single one. Same reason why France or Germany make for better markets to use if you want to compare current movies to movies from 20 years ago than Mexico or Brazil.

It depends on which markets. You can compare all these movies in mature markets such as the ones I mentioned above, but comparing them in markets that are still growing makes absolutely no sense. And thus it doesn't make much more sense to compare overall OS totals either. So AIW released in 2018 will gross more in China than Return of the King ? No kidding ! By the way, when a market is growing as fast as China is, a few years is a lot.

Yeah and the dollar was far  weaker when some older movies were released, expensive 3d screens more prelevant around the world, home video far weaker, internet piracy far less prelevant e.t.c e.t.c., there are many factors in play. Why should I give a shit that Western Europe prefers Harry Potter when Latin America prefers comic books films ?  Going by your logic we would be having 2 billion $ films every six months with so many blockbusters being released , oh and since China is the talk of the town China has already shown that it is is rejecting many traditional western franchises like Star Wars so it’s not as simple as “if China was there”.

Only  the two cameron films are special, I can admit that despite not liking them, the rest are basically on even playing field when ALL factors are considered (for example when e.t was released there was no internet and home video was basically in its infancy around the world) and the box office results are what they are. IW will probably pass a juggernaut Star Wars film (with 30+years of nostalgia) in worldwide grosses that was released very recently and had a historic u.s bo run, and that alone elevates way higher than the hp or the Lotr films or things like Jurassic park unless we deem TFA as less significant than these films too (when talking strictly about box office).

there are multiple sites on facebook that the full movie in quite "HD" format and decent audio is available since 30Apr with detail of important scenes highlight in description, the video has nearly 2m views and 160k shares.

Surprisingly, as of writing, the video is still!!!

Another sites, also have the full movie uploaded, with 1.3m views but has been removed since

There is another site where AIW is available in 4 versions (Indian)- English, Telugu, Hindi and Tamil but the quality sucks big time

To fight piracy you can make a film that has to been in cinema.

No matter what kind of movie you make there are people who avoid going to cinemas for the sake of spending money knor wasting time!

Bahubali 2 was event movie like TFA in US. During its release people where watching it online!

Looks like Iw will fall 55 to 60 percent this weekend overseas.

Still shall be around 680 to 700 million overseas by Sunday and  1.125 to 1.150 billion by Sunday even still.

Perhaps strong holds in smaller markets will offset things :)

55% = 171M

60% = 158M

over 700M OS should locked after this weekend without China and Russia

For some casual audience that are not so well off and lacking in IP awareness, yes they may derive only one third the enjoyment watching the bootleg copy online compared to watching it in cinema, but why not since it is free.
