The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Deep Wang updates:

- Apes picked up big and should come close to 70% of F8 before release. Above Pirates in presales and about double of Power Rangers

- Dunkirk added another 50% in the past 2 days and is still running ahead of Pirates as well

- Valerian is at 27% of GITS at same point in time

- Girls Trip equal to Bad Moms

- Dark Tower, Atomic Blonde, Emoji etc will scattered sales of less than 100 tickets.

Thats really good for Apes and Dunkirk.

Yikes at Valerian. GITS opened to about 19 million, 27% of that would be 5 million. Valerians good reception and the fact that it is more walk up friendly than GITS should improve that number but it is still bad

TOMATO LAW is finally coming through for Apes.

Nothing short of fantastic for Dunkirk. Even with its large format presale frontloaded-ness, it has a good shot at 50M.

Yikes @ Valerian. Hopefully TOMATO LAW comes through.

Good for Girls Trip, but like I said before, 20M is going to depend on TOMATO LAW.

I don't necessarily think GITS is the best comparison, I think tickets for it went on sale before Valerian and it was more frontloaded and less walkup friendly.  Valerian will not have as much of an upfront demand.

The Tomato Law cannot be broken

70m for Apes and looking like 50m for Dunkirk at least

Yes, but people only used the promo because of the TOMATO LAW.

Not sure who are those people buying ticket for some of those movies so much in advance, the size (probably why they all only talk in percentage and not in actual number) must be really low with a lot of noise.

Just came to say whoever came up with the Tomato Law needs to be coronated.

I am so excited for Apes 3. Will be really happy if this cracks 60M. If it comes close to matching Dawn or more then I will be over the moon.

Getting 90+% on RT for a tent pole pic is a must nowadays to get attention. Tomato Law. It's POWAH.

We did use to get actual numbers till about a month and a half back before someone took the presales number for a certain SH movie and babbled about it online and on Twitter. Since then we stopped getting actual numbers and only get comparisions now

Careful on the Apes number...the 2 Atom promotions $4/tickets and BOGO were combinable yesterday, so there was a HUGE jump of buyers since it was $2/ticket...I'd see where the movie is 24 hours later compared to its peers before getting too optimistic...
