So by being able to scrape Regal, AMC, Cinemark, and Cineplex, that's basically like 80% of the whole DOM market covered?

Well I am not able to access the Fandango website now. Seems like they're pretty serious about preventing scraping. So may have to find another way to access Regal data.

Had to run this earlier than usual tonight since I've got a very early morning tomorrow.  It looks like it may have cost me a 1,000 ticket day.  Tomorrow should get there.

1st its great ZackM is so confident about building a scrapper. Please do it. i just looked at the site and it cannot be scrapped from backend. 1st its asking for login and plus it needs us to select seat count before looking at seat map. But it should be doable from front end. Go for it @ZackM

@Menor on fandango, sometimes wait. it might work at a later time. your process cannot be blocked.

FYI my data for MTC1 is not complete. One its only for Reserved screens, 2nd MTC1 does not return data for sellouts at times(even remove them all together). So I do miss tons of data. Especially for a big movie. That said its enough to project.

After Wang numbers, we are doing fine I guess as we know roughly how much of data we are missing.

Big increase today across the board. But that is expected as we are entering release week. I am expecting big boost on tuesday as showcounts should increase big time as we have final week schedule firm up.

Quick check on D4/5. If I am not wrong there wont be any discount tuesday during that week.

Very nice acceleration especially at MTC1. I had run D2/3 earlier this afternoon and so it was less than full day but looking at Previews/OD at MTC1 acceleration is starting. I am hoping for at least 7K shows at MTC1 for previews and 5K at MTC2. for OD the show count should cross 8K. let us wait for tomorrow for big burst and then again on final day.

I also ran D6/7 earlier this morning. Good numbers especially on christmas day.

No my IP is blocked. Like I can't access the site even by regular browsing. I could get around it with a proxy but I'd rather not piss them off more as there have been cases of people being sued for too much unwanted scraping.

I will try to get Regal data directly from Regal's website instead, I doubt they'll be as strict as Fandango about the scraping (the only reason I think Fandango is so hard on it is that they sell access to their API, so people scraping from their site interferes with their business model). So may take another couple of days.

That is ridiculous. But again they were the one who got rid of pulse. I will never use their site to book tickets for sure. They are definitely rotten for sure 😞

What’s the rate? We might be able to get a decently broad base for crowdfunding?

On one hand, I get they have a business model. But this is such a minor thing and the data is all publicly available anyway so ugh. But I just gotta let it go as they have the power in this situation. I will check Regal TOS before scraping, hopefully they don't have an explicit ban.

@Arendelle Legion the info should be here: https://developer.fandango.com/ or search "Fandango API", I wasn't able to find the exact numbers but it should be somewhere on there.

T-3 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

At same time

Endgame: $43mn Approx (62%) (Final $53mn Approx)

MTC 2: $15mn

At same time

Endgame: $24.5mn Approx (61%) (Final $30mn Approx)

The Lion King: $6mn (40%) (Final $12mn)

Nationwide estimates

Previews: $24mn

Friday: $22mn

Saturday: $18mn

Sunday: $11mn

Rest: $16mn

FSS: $76mn Approx

Total: $91mn Approx

At same time

Endgame: $148mn (61.5%) (Final $186mn Approx)

The Lion King: $36mn (40%) (Final $74mn Approx)

Estimated FSS day wise comparison of Endgame and TRS T-3 Days

Spoiler

  SW: TRS A: EG %
Previews $24.25 $31.00 78.23%
Friday $22.25 $36.50 60.96%
Saturday $18.24 $36.00 50.67%
Sunday $10.91 $25.00 43.63%
Rest $15.62 $20.00 78.12%

Note: All these numbers include a good amount of estimation. The system is working well but there's always margin of error, take +/-5%.

There was an error in calculation of overall sales after FSS which I corrected so previous data will need some alterations. The data is, however updated in the sheet.

To access the Fandango API, it looks like you need to buy a core AVI subscription, and then ask Fandango nicely. The cheapest core subscription is $500 a month, and they'd probably tell us "no" when we asked nicely is my guess. So this seems... not promising. But if anyone reading this happens to have $500 to burn on seeing if Fandango will work with us, contact a developer-y person about that, I guess.

Cats Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-3 and Counting

Like I said a couple days back, this is pretty decent. It could be inflated by fans of the musical, but this does seem like an okay start that could see good gains if the next couple days sell well

Decided since it's the week of release, I'm going to get rid of the final count comps until Thursday. There's definitely going to be some declines, but we're getting close enough to release that it's not really all that necessary.

Anyways, I'll admit that I wasn't super impressed with today's gains, I feel like it could have done a bit better. But tomorrow should see more showtimes, so hopefully there's even greater acceleration in the days to come.

its just monday evening and already if I refresh show count I am see 100's of shows being added. it wont be over till afternoon tomorrow and then PS should start to ramp up. at mega cities, any new shows added during not so crazy time is selling out quickly and so I am expecting HUGE ramp up. PS should double today.

I just refreshed previews at MTC1 and I see 2778 new shows added for previews !!! I am hoping now for 10K shows at MTC1( Greed is good).

Not much to say.  Very day in Sacto.  Would have been even better if not for the fact that most of the showings added were after 9:30pm.

One new 6pm-ish showing at SMG Rocklin though sold 60 tickets today, though, which helped a great deal.  And a couple of the other few pre-8pm'ers also did really well.

So still chugging along here. 👍
