Unlike the time when the original Blade Runner opened second at the domestic B.O. with $6.1M behind the third weekend of E.T. which made $13.7M, the hope by financier Alcon and Sony International Releasing is that the three-decades worth of generational fans will come out for Blade Runner 2049. The sequel will easily own no. 1 stateside with approximately $45M at 4,000-plus theaters and an overseas opening in the mid-$50M range for a grand $100M global debut. That start will easily make Blade Runner 2049 the biggest box office opening for leading man Ryan Gosling and director Denis Villeneuve.

Those figures by the way are within the wheelhouse of other late ’70s/early ’80s cult sci-fi reboots read Mad Max Fury Road ($45.4M domestic opening), Tron Legacy ($44M dom debut), and Prometheus ($51M dom. debut). Last week, Fandango reported that advance ticket sales for Blade Runner 2049 were outpacing that of Fury Road and October’s top two record openersGravity ($55.8M) and Ridley Scott’s The Martian ($54.3M).

Movietickets.com reports that Blade Runner 2049 advance ticket sales are selling at 6x that of Villeneuve’s previous sci-fi Oscar-winning film Arrival ($24m opening) and 3x that of last summer’s War for the Planet of the Apes ($56.3M opening weekend).

Also opening in the U.S./Canada this weekend is 20th Century Fox/Chernin’s The Mountain Between Us starring Idris Elba and Kate Winslet. Pic, which will be in play at 3,000 locations with an eye a $11M-$12M is counting on older females.

Also Lionsgate has Hasbro’s big screen version of My Little Pony which is tracking between $14M-$17M at 2,500 sites. Previews will happen tomorrow night at 7PM.

Even so, looks way above the 7 million LRF that ProBoxoffice has. Curious to see how much they move it tonight

$2 tickets - their power:)...

One day, I'd love to know exactly how much box office these crazy T-Mobile deals bring for a movie...and of course, now I'd also love to know how much Moviepass holders are bringing in b/c they are getting more and more press and probably more and more members (Slickdeals had a press piece to their site members just yesterday about signing up for this)...

And speaking of deals, now another phone company is offering its top members a Fandango BOGO code to use every 35 days - another response to Moviepass to make the once a month goer decide to stick with Fandango??

I’m seeing more sales for Jeepers Creepers 3 than I am for Flatliners.

That is to be expected, just one time second showing right and in a limited amount of theater ? Perfect candidate for pre-sales (who does buy flatliners ticket in advance... really. just why ?)

It's too bad that the director's history pretty much ruled out a proper theatrical release because it probably would've done fine for at least opening weekend had it come out on that awful Labor Day frame.

Locals Thursday night presales BR and MLP

1st Local - MLP - 7/120 (2 shows, 60 seats - gets bigger theater Friday)

2nd local - MLP - 9/110 (2 shows, 55 seats - gets bigger theater Friday - this is an Atom theater and has much higher Friday night sales - teens and under 25s?)

1st local - BR - 39/185 2d showing, 8/185 3d showing

2nd local - BR - 45/420ish 2d showings (3 total) 7/170 3d showing

Update

1st local - MLP - 10/120

2nd local - MLP - 9/110 (Friday night Atom theater - 6:30pm 49/95 sold - seems those $2 tickets are being used for real weekend shows, not Thursday)

So, MLP has sold 3 more tickets at 1st local and none at 2nd in 18 hours...

1st local - BR - (added a 2nd 2d show today) - 50/185 and 0/185 (added show) for 50/370, 9/185 3d showing

2nd local - BR - (switched a 2d show to 3d last minute) 36/300ish, 22/300ish 3d showing

So, BR has sold 11 more 2d tickets and 1 more 3d ticket at 1st local and 6 more tickets total at 2nd local (once the swap was worked out) in 18 hours...

I'll update again tomorrow before showtime...

Why did the directors history rule it out? Did he committ a crime?

BOP predictions: http://pro.boxoffice.com/weekend-forecast-blade-runner-2049-mountain-us-little-pony-movie/

BR: 54M

MLP: 11.9M

Mountain: 9M

It: 8.9M

AM: 8.5M

Kingsman: 7.8M

Ninjago: 7.2M

Victoria and Abdul: 4.25M

Flatliners: 3M

Sexes: 2.4M

Sounds about right. My Little Pony is likely gonna superfrontloaded for an animated film. Won't be surprised if it misses $30M total even with a $12M opening.
