The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

For Maze Runner...

Atom had the big presale deal ($4 any ticket)...so Fandango and MovieTicket.com probably aren't getting as many presales...

My current Thursday theater presales (before any Moviepass effect:)...

1st local (Cinemark) - Non-Atom seller

Maze Runner - 7/125, 2/125 for 9/250

2nd local (Regal) - Atom seller

Maze Runner - 44/125, 9/125 for 53/250

Hostiles - 3/50, 0/50 for 3/100

Definitely an Atom effect going on in how sales are turning out so far...

I know it had to be pushed back due to on-set circumstances, but man does it feel like this last Maze Runner has completely missed the boat on timing. The YA genre has completely fizzled since the previous film came out nearly 2.5 years ago, especially with the Hunger Games ending with diminished returns and the Divergent series remaining unceremoniously unfinished.

5 minutes of Pulse watching:

41 Black Panther

29 Maze Runner

18 Hostiles

13 Fifty Shades

Entertainment Studios might not be bullshitting that tracking number :jeb!:

Entirely possible Hostiles is gonna play well in midwest/South where it's not in limited release currently.

FWIW it had the best reaction of any trailer at my showing of I, Tonya today (only other trailers to elicit responses were Fifty Shades and Game Night)

Maze Runner hasn't changed whatsoever. It could be due to the weekend making its audience focus on the newest releases rather than the one coming up, but that spells trouble to me.

Otherwise, Panther's at a point where for all of the night shows currently available are pretty much filled up, outside of front row and handicapped.

Maze Runner 180 1582 11.38%
Fifty Shades 477 1921 24.83%
Black Panther 1559 2176 71.65%

Maze Runner is about 107% of Pitch Perfect 3's 3-day ($21.5M)

Panther's now at a point where almost all of the 3-day shows are either sold-out or are at least half-full, with Monday being the only real slacker, and that's kind of a stretch to call it that, frankly.

Shades also saw a huge surge over the past week, with a sold-out Thursday 7 PM show, and some big increases on all the other days.
