To be fair, there's not been a lot of fun this year and Mamma Mia promises a lot of positive fun.

 

Even your positive Summerblockbusters Avengers and JW were pretty dark for their own standards and even Deadpool had, at times, a darker tone for some scenes. 

 

Audiences surely could use some good fun in dark times like these.

To be fair, I2 is doing 550M+ of simple good fun style business. Solo and AM&TW I’d put in a similar category of blockbusters and will do about 400M of business. So while there have certainly been some darker leaning entries it’s not that much of a drought.

since pre-sales are going well for Mamma Mia 2 (relative to the likes of MBFGW2), 30 million OW should be safe for this musical comedy.  

 

Does Mamma Mia have a potential fanbase brewing similar to what Meet the Parents got?  I never saw Mamma Mia so I would have no idea if the sequel and the characters could have the reach that Fockers had.

lmfao @ Skyscraper still having two screens. There is no fucking reason for that, especially when Mamma Mia! and The Equalizer need as many showings as they can get.

I'm shocked Uncle Drew is sticking around. I don't mind though because I still need to see it.

I can't believe Ant-Man is already down to the second smallest screen. Maybe everyone's right about it being a bomb :thinking:

Looking at theaters near me, Equalizer and Mamma Mia are getting a 50/50 split on which one gets IMAX. There are no showtime splits. Wherever Mamma Mia gets IMAX, Equalizer gets PLF and vice versa. Ant Man is gone from IMAX.
