That's lower than I hoped but not terrible. And the average rating of 5.6/10 is almost on par with the first Equalizer (5.7/10).
The good news is that the film (again) increased strongly today from Pulse ticket sales (Edit: look above ;)):
2 times of 5 minutes eye counting showed at the moment for The Equalizer2 51 and 48 sold tickets (Sicario had ca. 18/5 minutes at the same time of day on Wednesday, so Equalizer expanded it's lead; Sicario had ca. 50/5 minutes on late Thursday),
Mamma Mia 2: 97/5 minutes (!),
Unfriended 2: saw only 2 tickets/5 minutes.

https://deadline.com/2018/07/mamma-mia-here-we-go-again-equalizer-2-weekend-box-office-1202428517/

Quote

After weathering a setback with Dwayne Johnson’s Skyscraper last weekend, Universal is expected to take the upper hand at the weekend box office with Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which is poised to make between $30 million-$36 million at 3,200 locations.

Sony, after owning last weekend’s crown with Hotel Transylvania 3, is looking to grab older men with Equalizer 2Denzel Washington’s first sequel ever, which is expected to make around $26M, possibly a bit more. Much like HT3, Sony has a confidence here that the fall 2014 hit, which opened to $34.1M and legged out to $101.5M, can play the summer and reap off midweek business. Pic’s Rotten Tomatoes is 41% rotten. The sequel, directed by Antoine Fuqua, is in a tight spot on the calendar, arriving after the lackluster Skyscraperwhich should drop 50% this weekend between $12M-$13M, and ahead of Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, which is poised to reap a $60M-plus opening. Previews start early on Thursday at 4 PM.

HT3 will be close behind Mamma Mia 2 and Equalizer 2 with a second weekend between $24M-$26M. Within five days, HT3 at $58.8M has exceeded the first-week $57.5M gross of its predecessor Hotel Transylvania 2.

I think Mission: Impossible is poised to breakout with over $60M now with the excellent reviews along with Skyscraper and now The Equalizer 2 looking to be nonevents.

I've been thinking around there for a few weeks, but I'm not ruling out $75m or so now.

At 26 if it follow those multiplier:

2 guns: 2.794 -> 72.644
Equalizer: 2.974 -> 77.324
Mag 7: 2.69 -> 69.94

It has full summer days run, but is a direct sequel + mediocre reviews + Mission Impossible coming for that audience. It is Denzel playing what marketing study told him what audience prefer the most watching him do (being the mean powerful guy protecting weaker one) to a ridiculous level, but he played that formula so many time.

Not too bad if it can achieve a good for Denzel 1:1 dbo/ibo and if they kep that budget cheap around 65m like on the first, but no margin to come under tracking a la Skyscraper.

Mamma Mia can go much higher than 30m, come-on.

MT update  - as mentioned already with one new film:

#1 HT3 21.7%
#2 Ant-Man 15.4%
#3 Mamma Mia! 10.1%
#4 TI2 9.4%

#5 Skyscraper 8.9%

Judging from presales, I would say both big new releases will open higher than in the deadline article predicted. And Skyscraper is lucky if it's losing only 50%. The total disinterest in Unfriended 2 is maybe not that surprising with only 37% at RT who liked the first one. Personal even as a horror film fan I wouldn't watch part 2 neither.

Maybe they're trying to attract the over 70s audience?

Speaking of which, how are presales looking down in Elderly State @WrathOfHan?

Why not just flat out do a 4-day OW, though? You're getting a full extra day's worth of service rather than to fake like Thursday previews + OD gross were anything all that impressive.

Unfriended 2 with theater counts a little less than BH Tilts other top releases.  Disappointing considering the brand recognition and low budget.  It looks like Unfriended 2 is not making the hype it could have reached with its promising trailer.

I don't know why they gave their worst movies the widest release. I don't know why they don't release one of their bigger titles. Why not release Insidious 4 instead of selling it to Universal.
