Lager Pictures has tapped JA Bayona (The Orphanage, A Monster Calls) to direct Siren Head, a horror film based on the popular cryptid/urban legend created by artist Trevor Henderson. 

 

 

 

In addition to Bayona's hiring, John Krasinski (A Quiet Place, Amazon's Jack Ryan) and Sasha Lane (American Honey, the Spark tetralogy) have been cast in the leading roles, with Krasinski also being tapped as a producer on the film. The story is purported to be centered around two park rangers (Krasinski and Lane) tasked with investigating several mysterious disappearances within their national park, including the young daughter of Krasinski's character. As their investigation thickens, the two rangers discover that the link between all of the missing peoples all leads back to the mysterious, titular creature lurking within the vast forest.

 

Siren Head has been slated for a Spring Y9 release date, taking the spot originally reserved for the Gore Verbinski horror film, Pitch Black, which has now been slated for an early Y10 release. Lager Pictures' studio head Christopher Lager has also suggested that there is an off-chance Siren Head could be released in Y8, though this remains a big 'if' given since the studio is committed to delivering all the films currently slated for the upcoming year.

[Blankments]

Blankments Productions Has Found Their Ms. Marvel!

 

Following a long search, the actor who will be playing Kamala Khan has finally been cast!

 

 

Suhana Khan will being making her acting debut in Blankments Productions' Ms. Marvel, scheduled for release in Y8. Suhana Khan is the daughter of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, and beat out several actors for the role.

 

Minhal Baig, writer and director of the film, had this to say: "Casting the role of Kamala Khan was quite tough, as I realized as a Pakistani-American myself, I needed to find an actor with that heritage to embody the role. Although we saw many great actors audition, it eventually came down to finding a young woman who understood the role on a base level, and with Suhana, we have a really talented actress on board who even has the same last name of Ms. Marvel herself!"

 

Suhana Khan was studying at NYU Tisch School of the Arts when Baig began her international search for the superhero. Deciding to audition under a surname (so her famous father would not influence the choice), she was called back in the final rounds and has just accepted the role. Suhana has Pakistani grandparents and was partially raised as a Muslim, two things that made the audition process incredibly personal for her.

 

"It means a lot to me that I got this role on my own, and I can't believe I'm making my debut in such a big project! Well, my debut outside of student short films, I guess, but anyway. I'm really excited to be working with Minhal and the people at Blankments Productions to bring Kamala Khan to life. It is a true honor to be able to portray her," said Suhana Khan in a statement.

 

In addition to the casting news, Ms. Marvel is being moved out of October to the summer season, seeing a lack of PG-13 films in the upcoming summer. It will now open on July 12, just in time for the Islamic New Year and Ashura, which are on the 8th and the 17th, respectively. More casting news will arrive soon, but for now, Baig, Khan, and Blankments Productions are very excited to be bringing one of the most popular recent superheroes to life next summer!

Jack Lowden,  Letita Wright are locked in to star in an original sci-fi superhero film with the working title "Swap Meet". It's being described internally as " Into the Spider-verse" meet "The Long Way Home". Expect an A-list director to work on the film.

While the Oscars ceremony for Year 7 is still a long ways off, Alpha Pictures and Hollywood Animation Studios is already ruling out the possibility of a trailer premiere for their upcoming film Wanderer, excluding any (unlikely) last-minute changes. In the words of a spokesperson for the studio(s), "we have a history of teasing our upcoming slate during the Oscars ceremony and then failing to live up to the lofty expectations we've set for ourselves. While production on Wanderer has been moving along steadily, we don't want to kickstart our marketing campaign until we have a clearer picture of what the final product will look like, and whether it will be able to make its current Year 8 release date."

Kay Cannon (Blockers, Pitch Perfect) signs on to direct Infinite Studios’ untitled female Jump Street spin-off as Jillian Bell, Nick Offerman, Ice Cube and Amber Stevens will return to reprise their roles in 22 Jump Street. Lead actresses should be casted soon.

The leads for Kay Cannon’s Sisters of Jump Street have been casted as Kristen Stewart (Charlie’s Angels, Clouds of Sils Maria) and Mandip Gill (Doctor Who, Scooby-Doo: Cult of The Creeper) will play the leads. Gill’s character is expected to the be the main lead. Sisters of Jump Street will comes to theaters May 10th, Y8.

In light of recent allegations and statements made concerning Ansel Elgort, Numerator Pictures has elected to recast the role of Hank Palace for the final entry in the Last Policeman series, World of Trouble. Alden Ehrenreich, the original runner-up for the role, will fill the character's shoes.

Endless Animation and acclaimed actor Tituss Burgess (Ms Blakk for President, Unbreakable Kimmy Smchidt) is working on a fantasy comedy musical titled Downtown, centered in downtown New York where mythical creatures, wizards, superheroes, aliens occurrences happen frequently. Xavier B. Irving greenlit the project due to his love and his childhood in New York. Burgess will not only play one of the leads but will be involved with the project as a producer.

Endless Entertainment lays out franchise plans

 

After a successful Y7, Endless Entertainment has greenlit television shows, video games and even more excitedly, a theme park deal with Universal Studios.

 

Endless Animation Television has made a deal with Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, having greenlit two shows based on the IPs for the network for Y9. The first which will air on Nickelodeon from Tom Reugger (Animaniacs, Pinky and The Brain) and Michael Jelenic (Batman: The Brave and The Bold, Teen Titans Go!) is Squirrel Girl’s Non Sequiter Sketch Show, a half hour comedy show that features Squirrel Girl and the rest of the Marvel universe doing various sketches slated for Spring Y9. The latter will be from Bruce Timm and Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series, Justice League) is Green Lantern Corps: The Animated Series which will be based on Endless’ Green Lantern Corps films as well as apart of a different canon which is said to contain multiple storylines and lanterns.

 

Endless also teams up with Toys for Bob (Spyro: Reignited, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time) to create a platforming video game based on the Y6 juggernaut, Gateways, titled Gateways: Reality Shift where you can play as Bailee, Levi, Magi or Stripes as they navigate worlds new and familiar as Brutus is revealed to have returned and now has a personality of his own and a plan to destroy the multiverse that features the appearance of every Endless Animation film. Gateways: Reality Shift releases Fall Y8 on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. A special pre-order lets you play as Earl from the Can You Imagine? Trilogy.

 

Meanwhile for Y10, Endless Entertainment partners up with Universal Studios Orlando to develop an Endless Entertainment themed theme park dubbed Endless Park with rides and restaurants based on Endless Entertainment, Endless Animation and Infinite Studios properties including:

- Off-Road: Overdrive, a looming steel coaster where the guests get into race car themed carts as they are blasted in for a fun ride.

- Gateways Escapeway, a roller coaster that flings you across dimensions, using special goggles and AR tech to show different surprises.

- Green Lantern: Training Flight, a supsended roller coaster similar to the Superman ride at Six Flags where the guests experience flying.

- An untitled land attraction based on the upcoming The Phoenix Saga.

- UA High, a land attraction based on the upcoming My Hero Academia.

- Attack of The Nomus, a 4D indoor rollercoaster based on the upcoming My Hero Academia where the guests are at UA High as they must reach legendary hero All Might whilst fending off a Nomu invasion.

- Imagiland, a huge indoor water park/arcade based on the Can You Imagine trilogy filled with 1 story drop water slides, fun games, and trampolines.

ANTONIUS

 

From the creators of Can You Imagine? and the mind behind the Best Animated Feature Frontrunner: Sylvarius comes a thrawling animated epic in the vein of the latter and How To Train Your Dragon.

 

Loosley based on the 2002 unused film, Antonius takes place in ancient kingdom inspired by Egypt as well as African culture and the world is full of anthropomorphic animals, and tells the story of the titular character, Antonius (voiced by Shamiek Moore), a feisty yet jovial young leopard from a small village who aspires to be a warrior and honor his family linage, but as fate as cruel as it is fullfiling gets his wish, is kidnapped and put into slavery, and being forced to fight as both a soldier and a gladiator in the Conqu Empire, ruled by a tyrannical tiger with an iron fist (Rami Malek). Antonius must not only learn how to fight physically but for his freedom, becoming a freedom fighter in the process as well as learning a great warrior isn’t just about strength or honor but what they do for others.

Antonius is entirely traditionally animated as well being a first for Endless Animation as they usually go with computer animation but the success of the Ducktales franchise from Cookie Pictures Animation and the Amulet franchise by Hollywood Animation Studios shows hand drawn animation can be profitable as it was back in the 90s and it was the only way to tell the story.

 

In addition to Antonius is being directed by Chris Butler, Peter Ramsey has been attached to produce the project as well as Ava DuVernay as the Endless Animation heads will executive produce. The script is being written by Chris Butler and Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther, Static Shock)

 

Antonius is scheduled for Y7/Y8.

Antonius has returned from development hell and is currently charting a Y9 release date. Matthew A Cherry (Hair Love) will direct as Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays the titular role.

With box office receipts fully tallied for Pillars of Eternity: An Ancient Legacy, Numerator Pictures has now formally announced the next outing in the Pillars franchise: Pillars of Eternity: The Forgotten Army.

 

Pillars of Eternity: The Forgotten Army takes place three years after the events of An Ancient Legacy and will be a mostly standalone film that will serve as a link between two arcs of the franchise. Plot details will remain scarce for the time being, but one source within the studio has indicated that the tone of the film is meant to be a bit more adventure-themed with slight tinges of creature horror. "The storyboard and production teams were assigned movie homework to inspire design choices, and one of them was the 1999 Mummy movie."

 

Ana de Armas, Dan Stevens, Winston Duke, and Lily James will reappear in their roles from the initial trilogy. Initial casting for the other roles for the film is well underway, but don't expect any formal announcements on that front until well into Year 8. That being said, one recurring rumor in the mill is that professional basketball player A’ja Wilson, last seen on-screen in Year 4's By the Balls, is being courted for a supporting role.

 

As for who will be directing the movie, that job has been assigned to Mimi Leder, who has just come off helming Countdown City for the studio. This will be Leder's first big-budget film since 1998's Deep Impact, but the studio is confident in her skills.

 

Pillars of Eternity: The Forgotten Army is slated to arrive in December Year 9. Don't expect a more specific date for a while.

New Journey Pictures would like to formally announce that the cinematographer and editor of Greg on All Fours are Robbie Ryan and Jennifer Lame, respectively. They previously worked on the film Marriage Story. The studio would also like to formally announce that Stephen Chbosky is the director.

NEXT AUGUST.. SPEED RETURNS

 

Or at least, in theory. Blankments Productions' long rumored Speed revamp is confirmed, albeit without an official title yet. The film will be directed by David F. Sandberg, and will feature a bomb set to go off in a vehicle if it goes slower than 50 mph! However, this film will take an entirely new approach, and as such, will be more inspired by Speed than marketed as a complete reboot.

 

"We felt the need to take the rights for Speed as this film takes that basic setup to the point where it could either be a rip-off or a reboot. We chose to be somewhere in the middle of that," said Edward Nadny, CEO of Blankments Productions.

 

Sandberg's take on the action franchise transposes the setting to the MIdwest - during someone's first driver's ed course. With the instructor out of commission, and three students in the car, its up to them to figure out how to keep the car in motion until someone gets help.

 

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Wendell Pierce, and Simu Liu

 

The film will star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever) as the lead, the girl stuck behind the wheel for the worst first time ever. Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Clemency) will portray the instructor in way over his head. Simu Liu (Kim's Convenience, American Barbecue) has also been cast in an undisclosed role. Casting for the other students in the car, one male and female, is still underway.

 

The action film is scheduled for August 9, hoping to be a popular film for teenagers returning to school, and people hungry for some good old-fashioned car action in late summer.

OLIVE RETURNS IN Y8!!

 

But this time it's Halloween and scary season for our favorite dog. Zendaya returns as Olive the Other Reindeer, with Michael B. Jordan, John Mulaney, and Academy Award Winner Jake Gyllenhaal in tow. Oh, and of course, writer-director Taika Waititi, although he won't be doing either this go-around. No, he's vacated those roles to focus solely on Martini, although he contributed to the story of the sequel.

 

Instead, the film will be directed by longtime collaborator of Waititi, Jemaine Clement! Famously missing out on the Academy-Award winning role of the Postman, Clement takes the would-be reindeer reins for the sequel, which will feature new songs from Bret McKenzie and an all-new story for Olive and her friends. Clement will also star in the film as well, being the first new cast member to join the world of Olive.

 

Plot details are being kept tight under wraps, but the film will obviously tackle Halloween from Olive's unique perspective, especially a mysterious coven of witches moves into Town. The film will release on October 4, Y8, hoping to bring an element of spookiness to children all around the globe who loved Olive when they met her two years ago.

 

With the untitled Speed revamp and the untitled Olive the Other Reindeer Halloween sequel, Blankments Productions adds two exciting new potential blockbusters to their slate of next year, hoping to bring fun and exhilaration to moviegoers of all ages!

Hunt Productions intends to bring musicals to.... The end of the world

In Y8 Ales Ross Perry (Her Smell) will direct the musical titled Sights and Sounds From the End of Our World with songs written by Keegan Dewitt (Hearts Beat Loud, Her Smell)

 

The apocalyptic musical is set to follow Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever) as she wakes up from a coma to a surreal world where she has to turn turn to people from her past in order to survive, understand, and come to grips with this reality that only heads towards annihilation. The cast also includes: Ella Fanning,  Dylan Minnette, Miles Teller and Elisabeth Moss
