Endless Animation has bought a new pitch from Taylor K Shaw (Black Women Animate, co-director of The Neighborhood) as the director with Aisha Muharrar (Parks and Recreation, The Good Place) and Kenya Barris (black-ish) on script, that's being fast tracked for Y9, said to be an offbeat comedic musical described as a bizarre mix of “Moana meets Bounty Hamster” with songs from Stephan Bray and Brenda Russell (The Color Purple). The plot is said to be centered on a re-imagining of African and Caribbean folklore, the demigod Anansi, the half-man/half-spider trickster who has lost deity status who survives on wit and outsmarting opponents.

ALPHA PICTURES' Y8 CAYOM FILM FESTIVAL SUBMISSIONS

In competition...

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Directed by Kelly Reichardt

Starring Sasha Lane and Julianne Moore

In rural West Virginia, a young public school teacher (Sasha Lane) struggles to both make ends meet on a low salary and help her students meet their learning needs within the county's neglected education system. When the state legislature threatens to cut funding for public employees' health insurance plans, she joins forces with a fellow colleague (Julianne Moore) and thousands of other teachers across the state to go on an illegal strike to demand better working conditions, for them and their communities. Based on the events of the real 2018 West Virginia teachers' strike, Enough is Enough marks Lane and Moore's first foray into small-budget CAYOM fare after their appearances in blockbuster franchises like the SparkScavenger Wars and He-Man films.

Out of competition...

Directed by Anton Corbijn

Starring Elizabeth Debicki

An action thriller set in the city of Amsterdam at the height of the mid-1990s Eurodance craze, an Australian contract killer (Elizabeth Debicki) is hired by members of the Dutch mob to assassinate a former lover of hers that was caught skimming from their funds.
