Both Valerian and Dunkirk overperforming at my theatre. Valerian should manage our equivalent of 25M easily, but apparently weather might suck tomorrow so I wouldn't be surprised if it hardly drops from Saturday for a weekend closer to 27-28.

Dunkirk taking advantage of the senior crowd, which means I had to adjust numbers a bit considering over 50% of tickets sold were seniors price. After a 18.4M Friday (we didn't have previews) it had a great Saturday increase to 22.9M. If it follows American sniper and hacksaw ridge's Sunday drop it will be at 56M here for the weekend but again cause of the weather I could see 58-60M.

hmm...But Val did only 6M on Saturday and projected to do 16.5-17.5M for the weekend. Not sure where you are getting 27-28 from. With more PLF 3d screens and IMAX, this would have done 20+ million easily. GITS and Jupiter Ascending had advantage of Imax and both had 17+ openings.

 @DAJK has a formula for converting what movies do in this theater to domestic gross. What Val did in this theater was equivalent to 27-28 dom ow, so it really over-performed there.

Dunkirk in IMAX:

Good golly that was great. First movie I've seen that really uses all of that big-ass screen. And the sound was incredible. Literally had my seat shaking.

Plus I could slurp my drink without any sly looks since the whole thing was so damn loud.

Hail Nolan.

Solid jump from true Friday for GIRLS TRIP compared to BAD MOMS (also in July)

2.0 + 7.5 + 7.8 (+4%) + 6.5 (-17%) = 23.8

1.7 + 10 + 11 (+10%) + 8.8 (-20%) = 31.5

WAR of the PLANET of the APES penultimate trailer (they had called it the final trailer before releasing one more trailer) is still my favorite trailer of the year.

Haven't seen it, but curious to know why you think it's struggling. If it's possible to answer it in a non-spoliery way can you do it? Thanks ;)

It's very dark and as said above feels quite heavy, very little humour etc.

But it's totally worth it, I can't remember the last tentpole film that was this good.

But Valerian has summer legs :sparta:

But Valerian has no Matt Damon. A fatal mistake. Don't know how Besson overlooked such an important part of making a successful film.

You guys may not be aware of this...but we have Ethan Hawke.

And he's 10x better than Damon could ever hope to be!

Probably will miss 40m domestic. Bombed as expected. Terrible decision to go against dunkirk. Should have moved as soon as Nolan project picked this date.

Besson's ego undermined this movie. Mid-August would have been much better.
