I saw you gave it ummmm... A... B+

Just like the last time you infamously gave that grade. You wrong

Eh there's a lot to admire in the craft.

But it's also a film that has very little to say. Which for a movie of this topic, I think is problematic compared to say Zero Dark Thirty. This is the kind of movie Bigelow has proven she can do in her sleep. Other than the superficial elements of pure shock at how sick things got, I don't feel this is a movie that progressed her talents.

ZDT doesn't have the same emotional impact to me that THL and Detroit do.

The middle portion of Detroit is absolutely unhinging

I haven't found any of her recent films to be particularly emotional tbh. I just think her recent approach worked better for ZDT than it does here. It's a topic that does not require emotion, it centers around a profession where you leave emotions at the door.

Detroit wipes it's ass with our Dunkirk. Everyone go see it

Are you really comparing a minor civil disturbance to a great historical event ?

If you are going to riot and wholsale loot, you are probably going to get shot, get over it.

Chinook normally yes by country mile, but this year so far Queensway in Toronto takes crown (normally #2)

Queensway, Scotiabank Chinook, Yonge & Dundas, south Edmonton, Winston Churchill9Oakville ON), Vauguan, Brampton, Brossard (Montreal)

The Queensway used to be my favorite movie theater to go to when I first moved to Toronto 20 years ago. There was a woman about my age who was the assistant manager at the theater and because I used to go there so often she used to give me free posters. It's a beautiful theater and they are constantly upgrading inside and so it's even more popular now. It got reserved seating you can drink beer there's a Tim Horton's inside and there's lots of things to do for kids. So it doesn't surprise me that the Queensway is one of the most popular theaters in Canada.

What and incredibly ignorant thing to say. You havent seen the movie so u have no idea what youre talking about. And read up on the Algiers incident. Its microcosm of the race problems that the US has had probably since the dawn of time. Like Mississippi Burning it's an important film that needed to be told.

The Jungle Book was a huge hit back in the day and it has name recognition due to the novel as well. Disney aren't going to remake the films that weren't successful for them because they won't make money

I don't think it's because they won't them make them money, it's because their lower lesser-known popularity, and thus Disney's not interested in doing live-action versions of those films for obvious reasons.

LOL at the total wtf comments (bkb being one makes it even better)  in here and the baumer cube followups.  Pretty happy to see WW cross 400M.  Deserves it.  It's one of my top movies so far this year.

I can read

and its no different to

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_England_riots

Just a bunch of shits using any excuse to rob and loot.

I have not time for people who try to read stuff into these situations that doesn't exist.

That's an unfair thing to say, because, while the Dunkirk events had major repercussions for the outcome of WW2, Detroit details a struggle inherent to American society and maybe equally important at that.

It is the same debate of why movies about slavery or race issues don't resonate with OS audiences.

I remember when Valkyrie released that it had broken Cruise's 100m dom streak (technically Lions for Lambs broke it, but discounting it for a few reasons).

Then Knight and Day doing only 76 was really disappointing. Valkyrie after all was a box office hit.

Rock of Ages, like Lions for Lambs wasn't expected to do much so didn't care for it's performance.

Jack Reacher did well budget wise but was a more mainstream film unlike Valkyrie and I expected more. Oblivion disappointed after a good opening.

But Jack Reacher 2 and Mummy doing 59 and 80 is the biggest downer for Cruise. Mummy was an action/adventure and a reboot of a beloved franchise, not to mention it did Valkyrie/Knight and Day like numbers dom despite releasing 7-9 years after those films. JR2 is his lowest dom grosser after Rock of Ages and Lion for Lambs in the last 15 years.

(sub-100 dom films in bold)

I don't think so, I didn't make the comparison

They are trying to frame the Algiers incident as being intertwined with the riots, its not, it has nothing to do with the riots.

If they wanted to tell the story they should have left the riots out of it, it was a minor incident, bad for those involved, but worse shit than that is happening every day somewhere in the world.

By using the riot backdrop, they were suggesting it was a bigger film than it actually is, its just publicity to sell the film.

That's because his target audience/fanbase is older now and they want quality. all those movies UNDER 100 have been crap and deserved to flop.
