Can't see how it misses 100m with 47 opening day

100M isn't happening; it needs to stay flat throughout the weekend for that to happen. Even if Saturday increases from True Friday, this isn't going to have a sub-40% Sunday drop.

We all love the "slowed down creepy versions of pop songs" trend in movies, and last night I saw a preview that used a slowed down creepy version of fucking 50 Cent's In Da Club. I busted out laughing. That had to be a parody, right?

Is that the one where the girl is in a groundhog day scenario getting killed over and over?

Can't rule out 100m confidently if od is 47 even with a ~42% Sunday drop:

13.5 + 33.5 + 33.5 (+0%) + 19.5 (-41.8%) = 100

$100M would've been closer to a lock if Irma hadn't caused most theaters in Florida to shut down before the weekend began (and remain closed until the storm passes, which it isn't expected to until Monday). Next weekend's drop should be cushioned somewhat by the lost business, though.

UPDATED 12:07 PM: After a screaming preview of $13.5M in previews in 3,500 theaters last night, Stephen King’s It is performing exceptionally well in matinees and may end tonight with a big $47M Friday for New Line and Warner Bros. That would put It on course for a three-day opening record weekend of $100M for this genre which would bring it to the second-highest opening for an R-rated pic (only behind Deadpool‘s $132.4M) and enjoying the biggest weekend opening ever for a horror film by a long shot.

Yeah, I'm only expecting a drop around 55% next weekend. The following week will probably be over 60% with the loss of large formats and no cushion.

Well recently we've had the Carrie remake, Under The Dome, 11/22/63, Cell, The Mist, The Dark Tower, Mr. Mercedes, IT, and Gerald's Game at the end of the month. Along with Castle Rock coming up next year. And this is just the stuff already released or planned  (even if some of it may not be good).

It's a King renaissance you might say. The last I time I recall their being several Stephen King adaptations at a time was in the early 2000's at least. It's been a while.

Does this mean Stephen King movie adaptations being planned like Cujo and The Stand are going get fast tracked and made sooner?

I could see their being a lot of King remakes now actually. I really enjoy the original Cujo film, but as someone who's a fan of the book, I'd actually be up for another adaptation / remake of it.

Definetely not what you would call an "event movie". On the contrary...

This is a special occasion so the norm does not apply.
