$19,200,000 ??!!

IT is the story of the year.

It could end up the biggest horror film since The Exorcist.

:mouthdropped:

Ironically I'm seeing them both at the drive in tonight :D

Being in Tampa, I know FL has been catching up these past few days after Irma. When I saw mother Thursday night, I could tell a larger crowd was there for IT and there was a new showing every every 5 minutes when I went and rewatched it on Wednesday . School was also out all week (but theaters didn't open again until Tuesday afternoon).

Yeah, the theater I saw IT at last night had just reopened yesterday and they were swamped.

I figured! Orlando got power on after we did (mine flickered repeatedly but I never lost it). Looking at my theater showtimes I could tell they were booking every screen with it to try to entice people out of the house. From what I saw on Wed, it worked. I have a feeling it's going to be the same for a lot of bigger metro cities in FL.

And then a lot of people are going to rewatch it too from what I've seen on Twitter. It's like The Avengers of horror.

I'm looking forward to it but I don't have the best feeling about Kingsman. I hope I'm wrong but I haven't heard any early reactions or anything from it outside of what they showed at CC.

If it ends up not being that great, I could see IT jumping ahead again. Feeling a Deadpool style run.

Cannot miss 60m at this point even using below average Sat and Sun holds

19.2 + 25.9 (+35%) + 15.3 (-40%) = 60.6

Using better holds (still not great holds),

19.2 + 26.9 (+40%) + 17.5 (-35%) = 63.6

People keep talking about IT beating The Exorcist but what about Jaws? Is that not considered horror?

Absolutely. Jaws and Alien are both horror even though they have other elements to them.

Anyways, if you want an acting nomination for mother!, put your hope in Michelle Pfeiffer. Melissa Leo and Hong Chau are dropping fast in that category, and there aren't many other people that will fill in those spots. I think Tatiana Maslany could get in for Stronger, but it completely depends on how well Roadside campaigns and if Gyllenhaal is nominated in Actor.

Could be. Pfeiffer gets some choice dialogue. That is kind of how things go.

EDIT...... this stuff is borderline spoiler. I know you're not giving away plot details but you're definitely giving away stuff about the script and character beats and so on. This is not the thread for that. Please tread very carefully when you post them here about films. There are other threads you can talk about the film in that kind of way.....

THE STAFF

We will see how it goes. This is against a lot of Oscar norms.

~62 weekend gives it 159 + 62 = 221

Then adding 2x the weekend more gives it 221 + 124 = 345 dom

Adding 2x the 2nd weekend to the cume is not tough at all and requires just average legs.

So can't see IT missing 340-345.

It's a thriller.

It's absolutely a horror movie. That movie scared the s*** out of everybody when it first came out. So it's definitely a horror movie.
