There's a possibility of a Halloween bump leading to great drops over the next 2-3 weeks. It depends on which part of summer it came out in. The film taking place over the course of summer with the third act set at the "end of summer" complimented the early September release. I think August could have been ideal, especially considering how bare the release schedule was this August. But WB had a sound strategy putting A:C, one of many in a long planned franchise/universe, in August while testing September with the first of just a two-parter (though I guess we shouldn't underestimate studio heads getting greedy and greenlighting It Ch. 3: Pennywise Heads to the Big Apple). IT should’ve been released in August, not only because it would have lack of competition plus summer weekdays, but especially because the movie as a whole fit perfectly well in Summer, it is a summer movie released in the wrong season, if it were a summer release, it could’ve challenged Deadpool, IMO. Annabelle: Creation could work as a May release, since this month didn’t have anything apart of GOTG2 anyway.

filmlover
Not a bad start for Goodbye Christopher Robin but doesn't indicate much room for expansion either. Specialty titles that either aren't "buzzy" or aren't Oscar contenders continue to struggle. Edited October 14, 2017 by filmlover

I can see it touching in $80m, it won’t have any strong competition (Jigsaw will appeal to a diferente demo and will be dead after the OW), plus, it is the perfect movie for Halloween, reactions on Twitter also are extremely positive, even IT had some haters, but it seems that everyone is enjoying HDD there, truly impressive. Cmasterclay
Jason Blum might have the best business model in the history of the modern movie business. Whenever you can have constant tiny risk with regular substantial profit, you're doing something right.

Zakiyyah6
It is a horror movie that is making 325-330mil, no it shouldn't have been released in August. The September release date was a great idea.
