What is certain is that we need god, we are flawed and we need help. Particular users could also use divine intervention.

I think the people claiming to be Christians but silently covering up sexual assault need divine intervention before anyone on this forum.

As a person of faith I think it’s clear.  The church has no moral authority.  This situation isn’t unique to any congregation or denomination.  It’s in the Catholic Church, it’s in the Protestant Church, it’s with the politicians the church endorses and it’s disgusting behavior.  It doesn’t preach a message of forgiveness and rescue from brokenness.  It’s using that message as a way to cover up and protect abusers and manipulators in power while taking no issue in condemning the powerless.

Duh. Like you, I've always seen any church's abuse of power to be an extreme betrayal of trust. There are some congregants for whom the church is the very center of their lives, and to have that center harbor predators and do nothing to put those predators in their place sends the message that their safety and wellbeing doesn't matter as much as a leader's image - y'know, totally what Jesus would have done.

It's hard to reconcile the benefits of faith with the bald-faced hypocrisy, hatred, manipulation, false moral superiority, and other assorted shady shit of certain people and organizations that claim that faith as a shield against criticism or consequences. I've been lucky to be in churches that have had upstanding leadership and have presented faith as a call to inclusion rather than prejudice (it helps that my denomination ordains women and has organizations that focus specifically on bringing more LGBT+ persons into ministry roles), but I can't say I blame anyone who leaves religion altogether when they have a traumatic experience at a church. When you're told to associate the church directly with God and the church cuts at your dignity in some profound way, it's almost impossible to imagine that person (or others closely affected by it) going back to anything associated with it.

But anyway, in a far lighter topic... Blade Runner 2049 is so damn pretty in 4K.
