Weekend Thread | Estimates: T:R 57.08M, DH2 29.65M, MOTOE 28.68M, ABMC 11.47M, 32.4K PTA for Lady Bird (Deadline, p.46) | The box office is good again!

If Murder on the Orient Express does $100m domestic, we'll likely get another Poirot film.

Three Billboards is going to be Martin McDonagh's biggest film ever by a long shot. In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths did $33-34m a piece WW, this will likely do triple or quadruple that WW. He has a new play coming next year and I imagine if this gets awards, it'll be a huge boost for it.

I wouldn’t mind another Poirot movie, hopefully one that I don’t know the outcome of. I’ve seen a lot of the older ones but MOTOE is the only one I could remember the killers identity, mainly cause of how unique it is.

I think the next film if they do one will be Death on the Nile since it's the second most famous Christie book after Orient

I’m going to see Murder tonight and I don’t remember what happens. It’s been quite some time since I saw the previous version. It’ll be a nice surprise lol

Regarding Thor 3, what do they know that we don't know. Are we looking at a very strong Saturday?

And this Orient vs Daddy OW battle is going to have me on the edge of my seat. :ohmygod:

Im incredibly happy to see that Blade Runner has passed The Emoji Movie. Faith in America in parts restored.

The overperformances of both Murder and DH2 is exactly what the Box office needed. And seeing Lady Bird and Three Billboards going so well is just the icing on the cake.

I'd love to know how Moviepass is playing this weekend:)...It's now up to over 600K subscribers and it's starting to have a real effect, especially on OW movies...Deadline even commented on the effect last weekend, so I'm hoping they do again this one - you figure every subscriber uses it 1x/weekend (b/c some will use it 3 times and some 0 times, so it evens out), so that's about $8-10M of weekend BO up for grabs...

Moviepass is already starting to play a more bigger part in direct sales, as we've seen in the past several weekends.

The specialty box office is EXPLODING!  I love it.  I can't remember the last time I was this excited for new movies as I've been for Lady Bird, Three Billboards and Call Me By Your Name.

Unless you're Last Flag Flying, Breathe, Wonderstruck, etc. ;)

But yeah, Oscar titles are kicking ass. I expect Call Me by Your Name (which should also manage and $80-100K PTA), Darkest Hour, and The Shape of Water will all follow suit.

The terrific cinemascore for DH2 kind of surprises me too.  I thought the first was pretty awful and this one just looked wretched.  But I guess sometimes people just want to laugh and escape for a bit.

To be fair cinemascores are a bit pointless, and don't necessarily mean much. That being said DH2's drop next weekend will likely be soft due to Thanksgiving anyway.

Last Flag Flying actually expanded ok, maybe taking advantage of the holiday. It really should have gone wide this weekend though.

I wonder which A24 film will do better at the box office, Lady Bird or The Disaster Artist? They've become a formidable player in the smaller studio market. Fox Searchlight has also made a comeback with Shape of Water and Three Billboards.
