This is one example of a movie that is critic proof, at least on opening weekend.

Honestly, could you imagine any parent having their kids beg them to see this for months, and then saying “no kids f*** you it has a “Rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes, looks like you’re staying home this weekend.”

Well, no-one has any right to be surprised based on the promos.

Of course reviews don’t matter opening weekend. But reception will matter in the long run and for sequels.

I'd bet my left leg this thing pulls an A CinemaScore. Reception is going to be great among the normies.

I wonder how Nintendo feels about the movie, and if they are regretting partnering with Illumination. While I'm sure they will enjoy the financial success, the company also seems to take quality to heart.

As long as it doesn't crash and burn, I'm sure they'll be happy.

If the audience enjoys it, that's what matters to Nintendo.

How in the world is the CG bad, what? Just from the trailers, it’s the best thing illumination has ever animated. One of their best looking movies if not the absolute best. I see plenty of squash and stretch which are sorely missing from Pixar and Disney 3D films.

Also calling it “CG” is weird as hell. It’s an animated movie.

I mean, what were people expecting? This movie was initially green-lit as part of a theme park deal with Universal, I don't even think the creatives behind it were thinking it'd score high lol

Yeh I wouldn’t be surprised with an A either, it’s an illumination film aimed at the very young.
