Weekend Thread: 50SF - 38.8m, PR - 25m, 15:17 - 12.6m

I didn't see Deadline's latest weekend estimate being posted, so here goes

Meanwhile, Sony’s Peter Rabbit had a great estimated bounce of 100% on Saturday for $11.4M, sending its opening to $25M. This is above the $18M-$23M range that tracking was eyeing, and well above where Sony was figuring it would come in.

With their Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle making $10.1M (and raising its cume to $365.9M), the Culver City lot has had the edge this weekend on family product. The Jake Kasdan-directed avatar comedy is $7.6M away from overtaking Sony’s second highest grossing pic stateside, Spider-Man 2 ($373.5M).

Jesus, that's a sub-10% drop for Jumanji. What a beast.

NATM dropped 9.88% in the same weekend (8th weekend) but I genuinely thought that this'll be the weekend when J2's growth w.r.t NATM will be stunted. But as it stands, J2 is dropping just 10.33%. Dafuq??

A beast indeed. An amazing BO run. It's one for the ages.  :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

Peter Rabbit's opening is almost identical to Gnomeo & Juliet's (just over $25M) seven years ago. With a similarly barren marketplace for family films for another month until A Wrinkle in Time (Early Man isn't gonna make a dent), it could leg its way to about $90-95M.

Not commenting on the quality of the film since I don't plan on watching it, but we need all the "hits" we can get so doing over 90m would be great.

Jumanji should finally have a "steep" drop next weekend. Thinking at least -25%

J2 ends just below 10 million. Noooooo.gif

But it is locked for #8 in the all time highest grossing 8th weekend list. Will be touch and go between J2 and MBFGW for #7.

SPA does seem to have a ceiling of $20-25m for OW, their last hybrid Goosebumps did $23.5m in October 2015 so PR did similar business. I imagine HT3 will be the first SPA film to crack $25m but I suspect it's going to drop from HT2

The 15:17 to Paris didn't do great but at a budget $30m, it's not going to a disaster for WB, I suspect they knew it wouldn't be a crowd puller hence the lower budget but Clint has earned them enough money to cover a flop once in a while

Phantom Thread held pretty well considering how many theaters it lost (it lost nearly all of its Orlando theaters). That PTA jump from last weekend shows it wasn't playing well in more rural areas.
