Cruise likes McQ too much that even if studios are reluctant to get him involved (which would be absurd) Tom will find a way. There's no way they end a 16 year partnership from one underperforming movie.

It's not even really underperforming critically and Box office wise. Ex-China, will end up as the second biggest MI movie.

It's just the covid inflated budget which was out of their control

Very small chance of becoming the 2nd biggest box office for MI movie (Ex-china).  Not with the strong US dollars.  Other than Japan (where it should make around $35 m) ,  the rest of  international markets are already dropping hard.

Ex-china Mi 7 is now making around $255m

Ex-China MI 5 made $350m

Ex-China MI4 made &380

With the rest of the Hollywood slate looking barren for the next couple of months, I hope the drops are low

What brings me smile that at least one big market it is getting the best WoM and best run in the franchise. That is happened to be where I reside: the UK. It does what it is expected to do overseas. China it didn't get a super wide release and in the US SoF and Barbenheimer crushed it. The one market that is baffling to me is Korea. Was expecting 45-50m there.

Even in my country, India..it's doing franchise best figures and has gotten into the all time Hollywood top 10. Although Oppenheimer has all the IMAX, it's stalled and Barbie is way behind

Honestly, all this new negative chatter is just trolling and piling on at this point from people who either have an axe to grind with Cruise, the MI franchise, or both.

The movie has had a great critic and audience reception based on every objective metric, it just had a bad release date and bad luck that Barbie and Oppy took up all the attention and drowned out WOM, screens, and awareness.

The Mission Impossible franchise is not going to be cancelled by Paramount, the fact that it's doing series best in many markets despite Barbenheimer is encouraging.

And  I understand that a lot of the big action stuff for Part 2 was shot at the same time as Part one. Makes sense to do so.

SOme of the ideas here are, well, just plain stupid.

If, fingers crossed, the strikes are  over by  fall,   even by early next year, they can still have it stick it to the June 28th date . Bad Boys 4 comes out on the 14th and Decspicable Me 4 is scheduled for July 3rd.

here is the issue with MI

its become stale. the same thing over and over. Tom Cruise crazy stunt? hes done crazy before. and that bike stunt was over quick. This was supposed to be a spy thriller with action on the side and its become an action thriller with little or no spying . its the 7th movie and people have tuned out similar to how people have tuned out of fast furious series despite having a huge fan base.

Reviews were not going to save it

Tom Cruise needs to move on from this franchise

People don’t want to hear this, but you’re right.

People must’ve said the same thing after MI3 too..glad they didn’t listen.

Sometimes, freak Box office results happen..add to that a WGA strike dulling promotional activity and stiff competition for shows and screens and it can lead to B.O underperformance

Yep it just gives the people who do not like this franchise for whatever reason a excuse to come on this thread and comment. Ignoring all the obstacles that there were thrown in this movie's way to perform at it's best. This series could have ended after 3 easily. Thank god they kept going and we got some of the best action movies of the last 10+ years.

Given the critic and audience reception to this movie, its underperformance has nothing to do with the quality of the movie. Those saying otherwise don’t have an objective metric to point to beyond “but the BO numbers are bad!!”

Lots of good movies don’t do well, often for a variety of reasons. This isn’t a franchise in decline in terms of critic and audience scores like Fast and Furious or Transformers.
