FRIDAY 11 PM, 2ND UPDATE: Welcome to another weekend of strong box office. My sources say numbers for the #1 movie, Sony Pictures/MGM co-production’ 21 Jump Street, show an opening of $13M today and $35M weekend from 3,121 theaters. ”Great news for Jump Street as it keeps growing as the night goes on,” a Sony exec tells me. Nice haul for the R-rated laugher whose budget was only around $45M. Meanwhile, #2 Universal’s Dr Seuss’ The Lorax after three weeks in release is benefitting from the fact that 24% of K-12 classes are out of school today. But Disney’s disappointing #3 holdover John Carter is still disappointing a week later — down an estimated -60% Friday. 21 Jump Street is the first successful comedy of 2012 (since Fox’s This Means War disappointed…) and reviews have been surprisingly good — not just 88% on Rotten Tomatoes but even The New York Times. (Not that this is a review-driven film.) The studio told me it was “very pleased” that the Channing Tatum-Jonah Hill starrer opened wth $700K Friday midnights from 598 theaters.

Here’s the Top 10 which will be refined tonight:
