That “screen slash” isn’t happening this weekend then after all.

Should have good hold this weekend.

No one thought it was dropping full theaters...instead, it's the showings that have been slashed in about 1/2, if you look around metros...

Real theater drops, if any, wouldn't start til weekend #4 (and Dora), but even then, that's probably only gonna be 200-400...the real test will be Aug 16, when Angry Birds is also open, so there would be 2 "still have to be maintained" family movies around as kids go back to school...

Yeh I didn’t say theatres either. We’ll see with BOM’s estimated showtimes. There’s also that story going about that Disney had an agreement with cinemas to keep Lion King in the biggest rooms.

Yes, and if you go to your local metro theaters, you will see TLK does NOT have the biggest screens anymore at many of them...so either the rumor was untrue, the deal got adjusted based on performance, or theaters stopped caring en masse...the last being the least likely, and the 1st being the most:)...

Hmm.

That theater count seems a bit small for Dora. Wouldn’t that result to just an ok opening for the type of film it is? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Something like 90%+ of box  office. comes from the top 2000- 2,500 theaters

3,500 is more than enough - as said above it's the # of screens that matter.

Or it just doesn’t apply to metro areas.

Anyway, with that theatre count increase and no direct family competition, I’m expecting 45% drop at the most.

$42.15M or better for the TLK DOM weekend...well, it's good to be optimistic:)...

Metro areas are the ones that can afford to have one film take up their biggest screen for weeks as a trade off for huge business the first week or two.  It's the smaller towns that 1) usually have fewer screens 2) have a vastly smaller pool of customers who are most affected by long contracts.

This theater count is negligible - probably very small theaters that had contracts to show other movies the last two weeks.
