This is OS but just gonna leave it here...

Quote

Sony was the only major studio to release international numbers, so I guess Bloodshot wins the weekend chart by default. That said, it also won last weekend, so it probably was the actual winner this weekend. According to Sony’s numbers, it earned $1.41 million on 3,795 screens in 60 markets for a two-week total of $18.41 million. This includes a $31,842 debut on 65 screens in Nigeria. Its largest market was Russia, where it was down 78% to $549,000 on 1,665 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $3.55 million. It is not surprising that Russia had one of the best holds for the film, as the country was slow to realize the extent of Covid-19. Singapore also held on well down 53% to $119,000 on 65 screens over the weekend for a two week total of $454,000.

...mind boggling how much the market has tanked.

For some weird reason, Mulan is listed in Friday numbers. I guess that's mistake on theatres side. It $16k on 120 locs.

Onward is under $10k for Friday on barely 10 locs. We are moving toward $0 I think.

As you know I am actually very much out of touch with BO, as I am back to the theme less than 24h. So please excuse if this is a stupid question:

is it possible some cinemas put the old animated version back into the cinemas for ...? Drive through?  A combination of whatever?

🤪🥴🙂

Well I should have thought about that & checked. Though I checked few theatres which reported numbers on Fandango. They are closed.

Once again, Disney has been cooking the books!

They're obviously trying to artificially inflate Mulan's numbers. They're trying to make it look like a big hit instead of the flop that it is.

Caught red handed!

Since there aren't many new numbers, might as well look at old ones. The awards reporter from The Hollywood Reporter regularly tweets vintage articles about the industry. The main one here (from 1935) was a debate on the merits of onscreen kissing, but a little article alongside it is about US/worldwide movie attendance and expenditures:

"Survey, recently released by the department of commerce, says that 200,000,000 attend motion picture shows weekly. The same report lists the world investment in pictures and the accompanying business to be $2,500,000,000. In this country alone, daily attendance is 10,000,000 and there are 262,000 employed in the production and exhibition of films. The U. S. annual boxoffice gross is $700,000,000 and the business is one of the largest taxpayers, digging into that gross to the extent of $100,000,000 per year. Studio capital investment is $95,000,000, and about $70,000,000 is spent annually in advertising pictures. The country is overseated, says the survey, because there is a seat for every thirteen inhabitants."
