Got another source to confirm. Tickets on sale Monday at 8pm EST.

That's the start (more or less) of the MNF game.  Or at least the programming block (kickoff being a bit later in the hour).

Which make me think.  Usually the promo/announcement happened at halftime, but because many theaters/ticket outfits had better things to do than sit around and manually flip a switch whenever the promo happened live, they just started selling tickets at the start of the game/8pm ET.

Mind some did follow the rules and wait, but many/most/a lot jumped the gun (especially if their systems weren't set up for a live switch but were more tailored for an automated set time).

Any idea if this is the case or if it's more of a "Nope, 8pm ET is a good-to-go time".  If it's the later, Disney may still wait for an official announcement and make it sometime during the game.  On the other hand, they could put it in the pre-game show right before kickoff (8:15pm).  Say a new 30 sec ad or something like that?

A major chain has it at precisely that time for sales to start. There's always the possibility other chains do something else, but I think this is pretty locked-in, especially since they seem to be devoting halftime to Mandalorian stuff.

Who the hell is buying tickets to FX 100 days in advance?!

This is just a Universal thing: they like to put tickets on sale when the trailer is playing on another big opening (presumably AMWQ). They did the same thing for Nope when JWD opened, for an unnecessarily long presale window

So little sales are garnered from this strategy, and might even be counterproductive because you lose the hype of pre-sale launch closer to release (something Disney has figured out)

The Chosen will be back in theaters on Feb 3 with “The Chosen: Season Three Finale”, expect good numbers for that. Full week, full day showtimes. Tix on sale tomorrow.

The newest Sword Art Online movie also has tickets on sale starting tomorrow.

Maybe scratch the whole “full week” thing for Chosen Finale, seems like there’s only Thu and Fri times for it. Wasted opportunity, hope they expand it out.

Didn’t they initially (before the Covid shutdown pushed it back) put Fast 9 tickets on sale something ridiculous like 6 months prior to release?

Early Feb, I presume tied to a Super Bowl ad (which may be the case again here)

Insane. I can understand putting them on sale a couple of months early, especially for something like Star Wars or Endgame, but who’s seriously planning their Fast 10 viewing this far in advance? Universal trying to make Fast & Furious into some kind of Broadway experience is kind of hilarious.

I don't think they've put much thought into this beyond "Make Tickets Available When We Make A Major PR Move".  I.e: When we advertise the movie, let them know they can buy tickets.

Does it matter in the end?  Probably not.  Maybe at the margins one way or the other (say someone buys tickets then forgets about it and doesn't get around to cancelling it — still counts as a sale as far as Universal is concerned), but ultimately prob not too much.

It just feels a bit pointless this far out, and surely it leaves them with one less PR move for closer to release as they’ve already used up their big “tickets on sale now” announcement move. Considering the F&F series seems to be waning in popularity in the US, all that’s going to happen here is a lot of embarrassingly empty looking screens until closer to release. Like you say it probably won’t mean anything in the long run as they’ll inevitably fill up closer to OW, but it just seems unnecessary.

From what I remember F9 sales weren't awful the first day last time they did this.
